FF1 NES question.
« on: March 16, 2008, 04:08:58 AM »
I'm curious, would the game be much easier if the Int bug was fixed?

I know it would get easier, but I don't know how much easier.

Well, consider the following:

1) All damage/healing spells rely on INT.

2) See what the GBA port of this game produced as a result.

The short answer is yes in regards to your characters dealing lots more magic damage and healing. I'm not entirely sure that bosses would be helped by that much though...

All spells, damage/healing or not, are supposed to rely on Int.

Thanks to the bug, however, they rely only on the target's Magic Defense.

Assuming the algorithm were to work as intended, having higher Int for effect spells would mean that they would work more often. Having higher Int for damage/healing spells would not affect the minimum or maximum amount a spell could deal/heal (so FIRE would always do between 10 and 40 no matter what your Int was), but rather affect the likelihood of getting higher in the range rather than lower. So a high Int would result in FIRE doing 20 to 40 more often than 10 to 20.

I'm not sure how it works in the GBA version, but I know it's a different formula altogether since in that version it does affect the maximum damage/healing.
Let's dance!

I own the GBA port, actually. Need to get around to beating it. >.>

Thanks for the info, Deathlike2, Pinkpuff.
