FF3/6 - Preferred Hat or Helmet?

The poll should be self explanatory. Please give a reason for your chosen option.

 :edit: - I delayed my vote (I didn't forget, I just didn't bother yet).

I picked the Bard's Hat because regardless of the version of the game you are playing (with the evade bug fixed or not), it has the best value of the bunch.. having a reasonable good defense, exceptional magic defense (not the best, but higher than most helmets not named Genji Helmet and Titanium), and you get free magic evade. The increased MP is a bonus.

Stat increases are a tad overrated (you have Espers for that anyways).

just noticed that you asked for the reason...

for me it was tough to decide between the circlet and bard's hat.

circlet:
Strength: +2
Speed: +1
Stamina: +3
Magic: +4
Defense: +25
Magic Defense: +19

bard's hat:
Defense: +19
Magic Defense: +21
Magic Evasion: +10

eventually i just went with the circlet for the stats, as the 2 are pretty close in terms of def/mdef and the game already gives you a bunch of magic nullifying/absorbing/halving equipment that i just wasn't concerned with the magic evade.  i can just change helmets in important situations(i.e. boss fights) where it's useful.

You would never believe how much I love the Aegis Shield more than the Paladin Shield... and yes the Paladin Shield is better, but the Aegis Shield (with the evade bug) is much more uber.

true. for some reason, i thought you were referring to ff6a.  i definitely spent awhile trying to look up the bard's hat(thinking that it was some helmet whose name i just didn't remember) in ff6a to compare before i realized that you were referring to the snes version.

Put it this way, I'd prefer the Force Armor over the Genji Armor...  :tongue:

My favorite helmets;

Genji Helm just because of it's high defense value.
Dark Hood, because it adds the most speed (the same as red cap, except slightly higher defense. Red hood however has the HP boost)
Cat Hood because I'm greedy.
Titanium whenever your fighting a heavy-magic-user / fanatics towers without good enough evasion.
Bard's Hard; +10% to magic evasion which usually trumps Titanium's value in the fanatic's tower.
Circlet is a nice helm you can buy that seems like everyone can wear, adds some stats.
Thornlet. Just kidding, ha ha. I hate having seizure. Unless you wanna use Rippler on someone JUST to give them seizure. I think it's defensive value is good though. Just not worth it. I think seizure was "supposed" to heal the undead, so unless you got a patch that fixes that, it would be good on Gau with an undead rage in that one instance.
