Gaming Discussion / FF3/6 - Mirage Vest
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:46:53 PM »
Is this normally worth investing in?

I'm rethinking/investingating what the best armor would be for Gogo... as most know, the Tao Robe is the usually the recommended option because of the Magic Evade... and the Dark Gear is a close second if you want more Agility instead..

Has anyone bothered to do a mathematical analysis of the damage intake of equipping the Mirage Vest?

Here's my initial breakdown..

Mirage Vest:

Pros - Reduces Gogo's damage intake for quick and short battles, where Gogo is in a full party.

Cons - Overall Magic Defense and Defense suffers long term... not sure if it's that impactful...

Tao Robe:

Pros - The "best" you can buy..

Cons - Not the most exciting armor ever... since it's the best of the worst ultimate armors for each character...

Any reason why Vanish is simply a slightly cheaper Shell spell?

I would've made a better movie, but I forgot to make one the first time around.. so you would've seen GrandTrain (whatever it was renamed to) demolish everyone if not almost kill them.... except I already have Revive (Life3) available... oh well.

Ah, ok.

It's nice when people reply and post to something that they clearly didn't read thoroughly as 1/2 bugs and 1/2 suggestions.

I think the ability to use the Merit Award on Gau was intentional.. it just so happens that the devs didn't figure how much potential it had with how the Rages worked out. I mean, it's not as if the Rage command was removed from Gogo's command list at the very end.

Gaming Discussion / FF3/6 - Open Ended Question On Gau+Weapon
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:43:29 AM »
I've thought about this a lot, and maybe I've never been set with a particular weapon that Gau should be using at the end of the game, when you had access to the Merit Award..

What weapon is ideal for him? Many weapons easily boost him to 255 Attack Power, but that's not important at this point of the game. More importantly is the weapon he "should" equip to be most effective..

The only exceptions I don't want included is Tempest (I'm not interested) and Ragnarok/Illumina... for many different reasons.

There's a few spelling/cosmetic bugs that also exist (that weren't already mentioned in that thread, and I'll probably post to it anyways)...

In the Items Editor..

1) "Randomize" selection, unless there's some British spelling that I'm not aware of...
2) Item #229 ALWAYS raises HP... it's not quite using the proper tense...
3) "Encounter".. not "Encouter"...

In the Spell Editor..

1) "Randomize".. not "Randomise"..
2) Caster dies... "caster die" doesn't sound right
3) "Disappear"... needs two 'p's
4) "Defense".. not "Defence"..

i like that..  there's no reason the party shouldn't know the quantity of something it's holding.

and i dunno how one reminded me of the other, but i think the Scan spell should tell you what statuses a target currently has.  characters can only have their sprites modified to show so many statuses at a time, and enemies outright won't show most statuses (barring things like the healing/damage numerals for Regen/Seizure), so a more complete way of ascertaining would be helpful.   i remember talking to Imzogelmo about this idea awhile back.

Stealing this idea from FF5? I don't have too much use for it.. other than making Scan slightly better than useless. I can only find a very few statuses that are worth finding out.. other than those that are inflicted or are initial statuses... Any status that is the equivalent of Stop isn't that great... unless you want to insert a visible timer like Condemn in FF5.

A more useful idea is to have some visible timer on monsters that show how long a Stop-like status would stick (includes Sleep, Condemn, non-perma Reflect, and Freeze).

 :edit:
Here's a list of statuses worth finding out for this proposed Scan version (IMO, and as far as the eyes can see):
Blind - although, if the monster seems to have problems hitting you, it's a dead giveaway
Zombie - though it shouldn't be possible in the first place
Count/Condemn - I like my visible timer idea better
Image - that's probably the only status that makes sense, though if someone were able to modify the monster graphics for this, it would be very awesome
Mute - though, spell casting failure should make this woefully obvious
Berserk - well, it's not as if they weren't being vicious to begin with...
Sleep - the graphics for the timer ending is enough for me though...
Haste/Slow - meh I guess, but that should be considered part of the monster's natural agility/speed
Shell/Safe - part of the monster's natural defenses...
Reflect - um, shouldn't it be obvious by default?
Freeze - falls into Stop catagory
Life3 - probably the only status worth paying attention to, but you'd find out when it is too late anyways...
Float - isn't Quake the usual dead giveaway spell?

The obvious one is adding Haste to it, but maybe that's tooooo obvious.

 :edit:
Maybe also add preemptive strike for good measure (a stolen FF5 idea).

"Throw" doesn't sound quite sane.. maybe "Throwable" would be more appropriate.
:hmm:

Well, it's either that or "can be thrown" or something along those lines. Right now it's fine as is I guess, but it can be kinda confusing initially to what it means...

It could be confused with weapons that are thrown (Boomerangs, Dice, etc.).. hence my suggestion there.

Alternatively, you could actually move that to that command list over at the bottom. That way, you wouldn't have to rename it and can actually benefit from the highlighting aspect.

Also, I wonder if there should be something that precedes the commands that get enabled by the weapon...
Come again?

I was thinking that something like "Commands Enabled" above the three commands you've listed.. I'm just thinking out loud.

 :edit:

Added a suggestion.

 :edit:

On second thought, I wonder if two-handed could be worded better...

Maybe "2x Power With 2 Hands" or "2 Hands For 2x Power" or something along those lines.

 :edit:

Maybe "2-Handed Capable"... or FF6A's unoriginal "Two-Handed OK"...

Also, how about displaying the spell that the weapon randomly casts? Usually that's part of the description, but it would be helpful...

I just got an idea.. it's nothing incredible... there needs to be a Coral Counter.. or something that indicates the number of Coral you've picked up.

Some of you may remember this from a long time ago:

That was implementedmodified a very long time ago, not long before or after I made this. Recently though, we thought it would be a good idea to expand it, and make it more appealing.

I present this:

:cycle:

:edit:
Where's an idea when you need one?!

It needs some revising.. IMO

"Throw" doesn't sound quite sane.. maybe "Throwable" would be more appropriate.

Does the ignore defense also check the ValientKnife bit/property too?

Is the 2x Jump damage property hardcoded or what? I remember reading that the new FF6A Lances don't have that property (not sure if it was fixed/changed in the Euro version).

Also, I wonder if there should be something that precedes the commands that get enabled by the weapon...

Is it me or is the Masamune underwhelming? There isn't a special property to it other than the +20% evade...
