There's never enough bugs in this game.

The game tends to not update often enough (or properly), especially when it comes to the Arrow count.

If you manage to have one arrow, you can keep using that arrow over and over and over... but that requires some luck. If you manage to kill the monster with the final arrow to end the battle (or perhaps a bit shortly after), you will more often than not still have another "arrow" to use.

This behavior seems consistant with the way the game updates the info on the screen, such as death by poison/HP leak. This seems to have been fixed in FF4A.

Blood Sword & Lance: Lost their effectiveness against Giants, Flans, and Undead

Well, they are retweaked to not suck.

Quote
Coral Sword: Lightning elemental, still has 4x damage against Spirits.

This weapon seems to quietly die a horrible death quickly.

Quote
Dwarf Axe: 4x damage against Mages.

Too bad its lifetime is kinda short though....

Quote
Piggy's Stick: Causes pig status, obviously.

Another one and done weapon...

Quote
Goddess (Artemis) Bow: 4x damage against Dragons

And why didn't they do this earlier?  :bah:

Someone was bored, that's for sure. The pics explain themselves... almost anyways.

Pictures time! Will edit as I upload pics on dialup.

FF4ET:

FF2 v1.0

FF2 v1.1

FF4

Done uploading. As you can see, the drain damage is consistant on all SNES versions.

I'm pretty sure this is consistant with all versions, including FF4A. I was confused for a moment though... I'm not familiar with the "Absorbs" flag.

Then what would cause it to deal less damage on it then?

Unless the Drain Sword has other properties that I'm not aware of... it doesn't make sense to me how that monster takes less damage than the next closest monster (the Blademan).

I think that sounds about right between FF2 and the other versions about this monster..

Anyways I wondering if there were Drain resistances enabled on this monster.

Strength: 99 (empty hand attack power 48)
Artemis Bow attack power: 80
Artemis Arrow attack power: 75

40 + 75 + 24 = 139

The exact amount shown in game.  Nice work.

*edit*And using the attack multiplier that's a 2641 damage median.

I decided to figure this out, after a long while... and just seeing for shits and giggles how much attack power the ShortBow+Medusa would do... apparently the game told me that this combo was weaker than if Rosa attacked with her fists... so I went like  :wtf:

On a seperate note, this kind of data gathering is actually really good for the hacker to come up with the right amount of weapon and armor attack power.  Example, I have the experience setup so the party is at level 25 by the time you get to the underground and I only want the best wepaon to do a max of 3000.  So if the character has a bow/arrow weapon (in this case) I could pin point the almost exact damage range he will do with the weapon at the party's level range at that time period in the game.

Brilliant.

I'm an overleveler so most of this is just nice to know for level ups. I find myself taking tradeoffs a lot, like using the Headband over the Silver Helmet for upping stats and stuff like that.. just for an extreme. I've never found "generic" equipment to be any good.. and I find myself tweaking the final equipment.. to the point where I have to debate (internally) the merits between the Aegis Shield vs the Crystal Shield. There's nothing like it.

Anyways, at one time, I was gonna try to figure out how Edge's attack bonus thing worked, but it was already "documented" in the FF4A Equipment FAQ..

Formula is essentially:

Weapon on Left Hand + Weapon on Right Hand + (Strength/4 + Level/4) *2

Note: Truncation must be done on the division of course.

The only exception here is that the formula is ignored when both hands have a claw. Edge can carry 1 claw w/o being penalized as long as the other hand is filled with a weapon (and not another claw).

Ok, then the math is easy.

To calculate attack power for Bows+Arrows:

Bow Attack Power/2 + Arrow Attack Power + Strength/4

Try the math out please.

Can someone please list the internal data of the attack value of bows and arrows? It would be greatly appreciated.

Absorbs, lightning, weak to holy

That's the info that can be gotten from the FF4A Beastiary, but that's not what I'm looking for. I get the feeling there are other bytes set that aren't displayed on such a beastiary.

For instance, the FF5A Beastiary doesn't cover the "Heavy" attribute that is usually applied to bosses, but is also applied to a number of regular enemies... none of which is displayed in the FF5A Beastiary.

I know Tellah's supposed to have low HP but this is ridiculous.

That's probably because Tellah is overpowered!

Can someone name the resistances/attributes of the Grudger? (blue female spirit that absorbs lightning)

For some reason the Drain Sword is doing half damage to it.. so I think it has some drain elemental resistances.. yet it doesn't stop the Drain spell...  :hmm:

Do you have any idea what is causing the Poison protection in this game to not work at all?

No idea, I never even noticed it was broken.

It's been broken for so many versions, it took 15 years to get fixed.

Also, are there stored messages if you were to inflict toad or mini status via a weapon attack on an enemy?

Yes:

Awesome.

Seems to me that Hammers have a higher crit rate...the only weapons I can remember that have actually crit'd for me before that aren't hammers are any of the "holy " class weapons.  Crystal Sword, Legend, Light Sword, Excalibur, White Spear.

I think you might want to try the Crystal Sword some more.. it critical hits rather infrequently.

What I meant was the ONLY weapons I can remember doing a crit AT ALL were the holy weapons.  Yes it crit's rather infrequently, but I've never seen a knife or ninja sword crit.

I've definately seen them crit.. I spent a lot of time with Edge using the Ninja Sword+Mute Knife just annihilating Wizards left+right.

However, I haven't really used Knives by themselves as often.. I attack with the Dancing Knife when the special attack is ineffective...
