Phoenix Hacks patches
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:16:26 PM »
I was just notified by RHDN that my zip files for my patches were corrupt. I think I fixed it, but could someone check these to make sure they work on other computers before I resubmit them? One is the Medicine patch, and one is the Regen patch. They both increase the HP recovery of the commands. Thanks in advance!

Just a thought, but you should test the links first on your website first. On the other hand, IIRC, RDHN uses a script to download the file off the website. The problem there may be that Googlepages has one of those anti-file leeching scripts enabled and well that fucks up the system.

I would suggest you ask around for webpages with reliable file support and/or ask about the place hosting your files.

Ok, here's some insight into the Googlepages problem:

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked into it, but I think it's something else. I believe it's a Mac/PC issue, since I can download and use the patch from RHDN, but they say it's corrupt. I've encountered the issue before with zip files, but I can't remember how I solved it.

It might have to do with folders: that is, I can't zip a folder, only files. I've re-compressed the IPS files and readme and attached it to this post, if anyone has the time try it.

I'm just curious why you even have an OSX patch to begin with... if a proper IPS utility exists for the Mac, it shouldn't have an issue.

The only major difference AFAIK between PCs and Macs is that silly bit system (damnit, I just forgot what that term was) where you read the bytes differently in one direction.

You only need IPS patches. I've never heard of any Mac user that has had issues with IPS files and that needs a special format...

It's not the IPS patch, it's the zip file that's corrupt. Since there's two IPS patches and a readme file, I wanted to have it zipped together. Otherwise I have to post each patch individually on RHDN, which I don't really want to do. If nothing else, I can just have the files available somewhere else, but I'm going to try to get the zip file to work first.

Maybe it is the compression tool you are using?  :hmm:

We need a shrugs icon, but I don't recall there being an animation for that...

Originally that was the case; OS X's built-in compression tool is crap for transferring between Macs and Windows. But I used a PC-compatible one, so it should be working. I'm pretty sure it's the directory thing. I think I've fixed it, so I'll post here once I get confirmation from RHDN.

If it doesn't work, I'll just post the IPS and readme files individually. Not preferable, but it may be my only option. Ah, technology . . .

I figured it out: I was correct, I can't use OS X's built-in compression tool, and I can only zip files, not folders/directories. I re-submitted them to RHDN, and the Regen Patch should appear in a few days. You can also get them on my highly underdeveloped website: phoenix.hacks.googlepages.com

Just wanted to say the offsets to change for these have changed in FF2us 1.1:

Item Heal/Medicine checks against: 0x1E4E8
Item effect Heal uses: 0x1E532
Item visual effect Heal uses: 0x1E53D

Regen/Spirit Wave HP restoration value: 0x1E5FE
Values to prevent Regen from freezing FuSoYa: 0x1E616, 0x1E624

All offsets are for a headered ROM, like the originals. I haven't had a chance to test these yet, but considering all the data surrounding them is the same between each version there's almost no chance they're wrong.

Edit: Confirmed Heal, Regen doesn't seem to be working though, I'll check my hack in a bit to make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

Thanks, I updated the ReadMe in both files to include those offsets. I checked the values to make sure they corresponded. I don't quite understand how the entire Regen subroutine works, so the original values I gave might not always work. They worked for me in limited testing, but it could be in other situations they don't. Sometime I'll take another look at it.
