Title: FF2/4/4A Enemy Counterattack Scripts...
Post by: Deathlike2 on December 27, 2007, 05:06:55 PM
As far as I can tell, there are a number of counter scripts that are executed by various monsters... please let me know if any of this is wrong or if anything else is missing:

1) React vs HP damage?
2) React vs Physical Attacks (Lamia for example)
3) React vs Magical Attacks (Queen Lamia for example)
4) React vs Elemental (Behemoth, Rubicante for examples)
5) React vs Summon (The boss guarding the Ragnarok/Crystal Sword)

Those are all correct. Counters are also used for some battle events, for example the lines Golbez and Tellah say during their fight are elemental counters, Golbez ends the battle by casting Vanish (Instant death skill, no name is displayed) on himself when hit with Holy.

Hmmm... it just dawned on me.  :wtf: :omg:

Part of the battle scripts, including counter scripts seem to have scripts running based on current statuses...

Most enemies don't really have any relatively useful egg scripts (it's simply do nothing).

The same thing occurs with Charm status..

I could be totally wrong, but I think I have something worth looking into..

If the battle script checks actual statuses (like, Egg and Charm status has a specific value that is compared against), you could arguably construct significantly more powerful battle scripts.. such as executing a particular attack while under Silence or massively more evil counters against Poison status (to prevent monster harvesting or something along those lines).

Most definitely. I specifically remember charming one of the FloatEyes from the beginning of the game and it used Death/Fatal on one of its own guys! Also the early game Cockatrices use Beak (stone) under charm.

How much/what is known about the scripts (regular and counter), as far as what is possible? I'm trying to come up with a way to compare FF4/5/6 's different scripts to see what is common to all.
