Crazy FF4 Hack Idea
« on: December 23, 2008, 12:32:07 AM »
I'm having trouble going to sleep, but I had a crazy idea.

I was planning to do a separate hardtype hack after doing the equipment "rebalancing" hack, but this idea blew me away.

The premise of this hack is taking advantage of the special character sprites....

One day, Palom was screwing around.. trying to find ways of evading the Elder and screw around some more. So, one day, he stumbles upon some forbidden magic that creates a duplicate of others... and well, there begins the mess...

The basic idea is that regular battles are sprinkled with optional character fights... you will find that starting at Mysidia that there will be regular encounters with "the evil twins" with character specific battle scripts that will... do this game some semblence of justice. These special character fights will be harder than regular fights and there will always be a guarenteed item drop that is worth your while.

The main components that I would need help in is the script writing (no, I'm not kidding) and maybe the graphics (I'm not a palette guy). I have some really crazy ideas on battle scripts (that will be worked out as I will try to analyze and write them myself)....

Regardless of what you think of the idea, I will completely intend to do a hardtype hack, but I love this idea as the premise....

The working name for that hack is "It's Palom's Fault".

For instance, a battle script from the "cloned twins" would something like this..

Palom's Script:
If Porom's in the party, cast Break on Porom.
If Rosa's in the party, set up special stats.

1) Cast Bio on all targets and end turn.
2) Cast Flare (twin spell) on all targets and end turn.
3) Execute Bluff command and end turn.

Repeat loop.

If self has Mute status, cast Quake (monster version).

Porom's Script:

If Palom's in the party, cast Mute on Palom.
If Rydia's in the party, set up special stats.

1) Cast Cure3 on all allies and end turn.
2) Cast Comet on all targets and end turn.
3) Execute Bluff command and end turn.

Repeat loop.

If self has Mute status, cast Remedy (full healing) on self and cast monster Esuna on all allies.

Note: I'd have to test if Bluff works on them....

Here's a simple idea for the hack... I'll end up scrapping this version, but the idea behind it is pretty solid for me.

Look ma, no hands!

The game isn't programmed to finish the Jump if that's executed as a counter... which is pretty hilarious, but then again Jump has its own sets of problems, and will prevent it from being useful (it's really that buggy if I hadn't explored a lot of that in detail).

How about adding some new monster sprites if possible to the hack?
I am a poor man just playing a game that I love

No monster sprites will be added.. mainly because I don't know how, but I'm not attempting to try that at all because it serves no value to me. I'd rather have monsters do nastier things than give them a new image.
