You can't, it's determined by membergroup. We actually requested a mod to allow anyone to select their own color at the SMF site but I don't think anything ever came of it.

It wouldn't be too hard to make your colors change with your ranks, if you'd prefer that to always having the standard link color. It's something I had actually considered doing before, but kind of forgot about.
