Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: Shadow Party Stats

That is true about Cid, but the extra damage is only dealt if he gets a Critical Hit which has a good chance of happening and a great default power. Though I suppose he might actually benefit a bit from a Bow/Arrow since those x3 Critical Hits to give him a 15% chance of a hit rather than his normal Wooden Hammer.

I don't think his "potential" best combo at the time would be a GreatBow+Poison Arrows, but I've always figured that even the Wooden Hammer is sufficient for the magnetic cave. Remember that damage consistency is more important than critical hits.

I recall Yang getting Critical Hits infrequently as well, but I distinctly recall always being less than impressed by the damage output of them, always just assuming before that it was a bad hit. I'll have to test that more thoroughly then.

The bonus could be something as simple as being level based. Early levels, it doesn't really feel like it has any benefits. When you get him @ level 30+, the damage isn't necessary, and remember that critical hits do stack with his special charging command.

You've got to remember that Cid in terms of balance needs to dish extra damage in the absence of a shield...

Is it possible that Edge simply attempts to calculate the base critical hit change twice? He does critical hit reasonably enough.

With respect to Yang, I'm trying to recall if he dishes crits often (I don't think he does that often, but he does make them) and he's a special case with respect to the damage algo (where his damage increase comes from hits base attack power IIRC).

IIRC, there was a bug associated with summoned creatures that have that bit set to have Quake immunity.

It's something to look into while you're at it (I forget if it was a bug in the original or the GBA ports).

Grimoire, I'm not sure if you read my algo doc with respect to critical hits, but that's essentially what it came down to.

However, I've noted your critical hits mention a fixed number to added damage... that would explain what critical hits do with undead and Cecil's Darkness elemental sword vs their elemental immunity.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: Some weird...thing

The only reason it would matter is kinda two-fold.

Titan would seem like a good idea here... the difference however is the timing of its execution (he takes a while to be summoned). If you really wanted to expose the behavior efficiently, you'd go straight to Chocobo while his cloak is down and have fun. The whole point is the demonstration of the his cloak...

Unfortunately, Bio is cheaper, easier, and much more reliable. Go figure. You would pretty much avoid most of the strangeness.

Sorry for the untimely answer.

You are better off making Edge or Rydia cast a Fire elemental magic for some hilarity after being blown up by his special fire attack.

I would like to say... redoing the Fabul battle event was stupid... because the group you use is way stronger than the original...

At least change the formations a bit... and make it more interesting....

Swordrats have magic defense, and if you've ever bothered using the weaker Ice or Flame Rods on them during your original trip to Mt. Ordeals, you would find that they really suck.

I forgot to mention this info earlier, but it's worth mentioning...

The first part of Lost Babil is probably the hardest of them all (in fact, the difficulty is harder early, not so difficult late). If the hand is allowed to "grab" a character, it is "special" in that it attempts to "squeeze" the life out of a character while making them useless (seen this before from the Tentacles in FF6), but more importantly it "holds" a band in limbo indefinitely until the hand dies or the character is dead. This is problematic if you are running ANY sort of band and can be called game breaking if you have a 5 character band ready to be run.

Blind testing is going poorly since I have to actually spend money to get afflicted by the status... which boggles my mind.

I will be testing what statuses Phantom Nightflies removes later...

 :edit:
Restore Weed heals Blind as well...

Phantom Lightflies heals the following:
Poison, Paralysis, Berserk

More thorough Blind testing later.

Also, the summoned Dark Grenade is the one that does Flash... but it doesn't seem to work out. I wish the regular Dark Grenades would do it.

W-Meteor (Double Meteor) was always free. This includes the GBA port which modified it a bit.

208
In my limited use of using cheat codes to insert the Twin command for regular battles and occasionally watching really weird stuff happen when running the Fusoya+Golbez vs Zemus battle with the regular 5... Twin has its own quirkiness that I cannot recall too well or explain, but it has a tendency to manipulate particular slots.

209
I think it explains some of the oddities...

Is it strictly copying Kain, or is it the slot that the character is occupying?

210
Well, that could explain a few things in why the attack misses outright... but there must be a level or some comparison involved to cause early game misses.
