Title: Changing Battle Sprite Palettes
Post by: Spindaboy on February 23, 2017, 02:29:31 PM
I'm finally back! So I've started implementing some FF V sprites into the ROM, but I need to know how to change the FF IV palettes to reflect what the colors should appear as in FF V. Does anyone know the process for going about this? Also, if I change the palette for let's say Palom, will that also affect the palette for Porom? Or are they separated?

Battle palettes for characters are exclusive, you can change them with no issues on other entities.

Good! Maybe you can tell Fedorajoe about it which can help with the Playable Golblez Battle Sprites used in his Final Fantasy IV: Playable Golbez Edition project.

If you like, feel free to use whatever you see fit from the patches in my graphic edits' thread.

I would like have Paladin Cecil's victory pose converted into Golbez and Edge's get damaged sprite also converted into Golbez. His get damaged sprites will be his SNES version of when he get's hit from flashbacks during The After Years. That could be useful for Fedorajoe's Final Fantasy IV: Playable Golbez Edition hack. I hear that he's almost complete with it.

Hmm, due to the way the struck pose is set up:
OO OO XO
It would probably be easier/cooler to take Paladin Cecil's Victory and Struck poses and edit them into Golbez poses. From the looks of it Golbez more or less uses DK Cecil's battle palette, so you could use that palette as a reference.
Give it a shot man, I think it'd come out looking pretty badass!

The struck pose goes like this, as you said:
OO OO XO
That's it, you take Paladin Cecil's Victory/Struck Poses and edit them into Golbez poses. As it seems, Golbez's battle sprites mostly use a lot of Dark Night Cecil battle sprites so using that palette as a reference will make editing new battle Golbez sprites for Golbez easier.
I may not be an sprite editor, but you can tell fedorajoe what you said to me about this. I bet he'll be happy to hear it. Email this reply to him at fedorajoe@hotmail.com
Speaking about that. I have a new struck sprite for Golbez. It uses the Tellah Block with Paladin Cecil Block, and Dark Knight Cecil Struck sprite combined but edited to look like Golbez.
I forgot to mention that there's a new program called png2snes where it converts Color-Indexed PNG files to the graphics format used by the SNES. It can generate binary files or text files that can be linked with WLA-DX.
