or of most of the bugs being benign?
This. I wanted to point out how harmless quite a few of the crash bugs were, but that would only serve to instigate an argument I don't want to get into. :isuck:

I'm not sure how resistance to Rippler via Imp resistance is gamebreaking by any stretch of the imagination... especially when it is rarely used.

Haven't had one of these in a while. Someone is complaining about how hard the beginning of the WoR is in FF6. In reality it really is pretty tough, unless you know the uber cheese strategies to make everything nigh-useless.

However, after being confronted with this info, the thread has since erupted into a giant argument. This one might last a while.

the guy's a tard.  he says that certain battles are hard, other posters explain how certain tactics make the battles easy and why these tactics are at least somewhat intuitive, then he goes on to dismiss them with the equivalent of "a rotting tree stump couldn't come up with that approach, so it has no validity here".  that's willful ignorance.

then he's pulling out the dreaded "everyman" argument with "every red-blooded American male would avoid exploring Zozo".  really?  according to what?  i'd think that red-blooded males who play video games are seeking out enemy confrontations.  one of the last people to employ the "everyman" argument was Bloody Excrement, who not coincidentally, was also a total moron.

i don't disagree with Lenophis that the early WoR can be tough at times, but "Concerta_" doesn't make a compelling case for it, since most of his "difficulties" are really the result of his own idiocy and self-imposed constraints.  ("Running is hard, and I know so from trying it after slitting my Achilles' tendon.  Any of you who didn't slit your Achilles' tendons clearly have some esoteric knowledge that red-blooded American males can't reproduce, and thus is of no utility to the subject ... blah blah blah".)  to hell with this fool.

here's a funny topic:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=930370&topic=54193908

the subject is slightly amusing to start, but a couple posters take a typo and run with it, Zhou14's post being damn clever.

We have reached the generation that doesn't really think outside the box. This is a sad commentary on reality folks.

I would prefer people to ooh and aah over something different that they haven't thought of, instead of saying "nope, wouldn't bother thinking about it at all". That separates the clueless/casual from the real gamers. A game is only as hard as relative to what you know, but if you don't actually use a brain to connect the dots, everything seems impossibly hard.

BTW, Bio Blaster is monstrously easy to abuse even with the lack of learning Bio.

I never had to use RunningShoes on the Tentacles... that would've been too easy.

BTW, Drainer+Atmaweapon is great for most of initial few areas with Celes (minus Darryl's Tomb for obvious reasons). I hate the Morning Star suggestion because I like having Runic available and that combo is still pretty useful at this point in the game.

Seriously, Mt. Zozo is like the first legit place I goto (other than making a side trip to get Bum Rush), and that place is still a joke for the most part. The most natural inclination is to go there first, especially with the kinds of drops that are there.

Anyways, the op is a total moron. I can understand legit gripes, but there are many easy monsters in the Magitek Factory once you realize physical attacks are usually not the ideal option. It is the incentive to learn magic and not beat your head against a wall when the first attack fails. Plus, Meeple is wrong about Bolt on Flan.. they are immune to ice, but are weak vs Fire+Lightning (hint: The Blizzard Sword sucks at this stage of the game!).

Note: I found that making Locke learn Kirin (for Cure2) early on is worth it at this point in the game... (especially with what goes on down the road)....

Well, I explained my opinion on it in the GameFaqs thread. Basically, when I was first playing this game, I found that area hard. My general approach to the game is to spam Fight all the time, except when the monster is hard to hit and/or highly defensive toward physicals. And yes, I realize that the game is practically beating you over the head with the notion of using Magic. But using Magic makes everything very easy, other than a few bosses which are well-prepared for such.
Anyway, the main reason I found it hard was a lack of preparation (as I genuinely didn't know that Celes was going to be alone, and had not prepared for the WoR at all). So, when I found myself as a solo character in a world where monsters use status attacks much more often (which I didn't know until I got hit with those attacks, of course), I found it a bit hard.  As a result, I generally rent a Chocobo as fast as I can just to avoid all those fights. Once I have 2-3 characters, I no longer have the fear of annihilation, so I change my strategy a bit. The thing of it is, the Storm Dragon was the first of the legendary 8 that I fought even on that first attempt, and while it was a grueling battle, I beat on the first attempt. After that, everything else was pretty much cake.
5/31/16 - I have an assembly of the battle portion of C2, relocated to the F0 bank, which has both vanilla and patch code in my dropbox. I'll be updating it with additional patches as I have time. I will *not* be releasing it publicly, but ask me for the link and I'll share.

i tended to spam Fight on my playthroughs as well..  but i'll readily admit that it was a braindead approach, whereas this guy does braindead stuff, and pretends it's normal fare for everybody who isn't some pimpled Trekkie.

now he's arguing that because the Tentacles use an attack called "Seize" to Slow your characters, you have no way of knowing that they're being Slowed.  seriously.

originally, I spammed fight, but now for the most part I use the special abilities or magic each person has. Locke being an exception, of course.

Don't use Gau much in the WoR, where my stalled save is now. I abused his ass in the WoB, though.

My favorite team is sabin(Easy high damage for no MP cost. good for lower level games), Terra(Morph is insane on bosses), Cyan if I'm using the swdtech speed up patch(Quadra Slice is a nice attack with the waiting penalty erased), and Edgar(Again, easy high damage. Not as easy as Sabin, but easy enough).

Edit: Forgot a word. Fixed.

I've had problems with the tentacles, and tons of problems. It was always due to lack of preparation, and challenging myself to see if I can get by without needing the runningshoes.

And now I've went and dragged myself into the argument. :bah:

hey now; there's no need to bash Meeple by calling him a fanboy.  though the bluntness of smacking the buy before agreeing with him was kinda amusing..

Only if you turned off the gauge bars where that "might" be true.. then again, you'd might as well call the moron blind or... just slow.

Seriously, reading people complain about something that they can't comprehend is sad...

I usually learn Air Blade by this time so I don't worry about this.
