Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: Auto Battle Script Location?

Bleh, that's not worth updating then. I'll have more clever ideas to work with what I already know...

I tested the DK Cecil opening battles... and tried to add a 2nd attack to the script. Firebomb, then Icicles would be used (one after the other obviously). That worked, but when it came to the Raven, the game whacked out on me and DK Cecil didn't execute the attack I set. I suspect there are pointers for each scripted battles to point out the start of the battle sequence, which is the problem. I got the extra space from Yang's auto-script (deleted a command from it to make room, but then again I made it a manually-controlled battle... not that it matters).

It's not as easily modable as the battle scripts where actual parsing is done...

Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)

And I had forgotten how much fun this game is with this translation. Anyway, I started a new game last night, and just finished up the ship graveyard before going to bed. Current party is Knight, White Mage, Black Mage, Blue Mage. I usually have Faris as a Thief at this point, but there's not all that much worth stealing until the Walse Tower. You don't start getting Thief-exclusive gear until Karnak, so I figure I'll work on Blue Mage, then switch her over at the tower. I briefly had her as a Black Mage as well, for the Torna Canal, so she has !Black level 1, and everyone else has one level towards Blue Mage. It's easier to just turn your whole party into them rather than trying to get an enemy to hit one character (although that is better in a way; you have more chances of getting extra Leather Shoes and some Elixirs early).

 :edit:

On my way to Karnak. These jobs aren't working well for me; I actually had to use Phoenix Down a few times. I don't remember ever having trouble with the beginning of the game, but I usually have two decent attackers at this point.

You can steal a fair bunch of stuff at Walse's hidden Shiva-path (well, primarily Mythril Swords)... You don't want to stay as Knight forever, so just go Mystic Knight since you get some Agility to go with the Strength.

Here's a simple way to make your mages not suck in normal battles: Stay as Monk until you learn Brawl (Bare Handed). Then every normal becomes stupidly easy.

If you have healing problems, take the Hiryuu or whatever it was renamed in the game and goto Lenna's castle and pick up the Healing Rod. Free Cure2/Cura for any character you make a White Mage (Red Mage is OK, but the Magic Power is mediocre so the healing will be somewhat disappointing).

It is also a good idea to get the 3 levels of Red Mage... the !Red command becomes useful for 1/2 the game (depending how much you care for the level 4-5 magic), and you get some pretty good insta-offense until that becomes really lame...

How am I doing so far?

I know I'm late, (and that I've only watched parts 1 and 2 so far, and that both desynced about half way through) but it really needs to be said:

YOU SUCK AT FINAL FANTASY IV II US!

It almost pains me to say that I'm embarrassed for you Leno.

In some recent testing, the auto-battle script spell multiplier bug ONLY affects single targeting magic. If you substituted spells like Quake or some other force-multitargeted spell, it would use the proper formula.

The auto-battle script pointers have to be updated as it isn't as moddable as I thought it would be. My attempt to tweak the intro battles made DK Cecil do nothing, so, there must be pointers somewhere for each auto-battle.

I released the patch not because of the b-day, but I guess that's my cheesy present. I intended to do it yesterday, but eh... happy b-day anyways.  :omg:

I had forgotten to take pics of the Dr. Lugae battle, but eh, I'm sure you can take some yourself if you really want.

Yay!

I've gotten the Super Cannon and Dr. Lugae battle done, but I'm still tweaking stuff in the background since I'm preparing to integrate Edge correctly.

If it wasn't said already, but this is certainly can be seen if you attempt to refuse the key item from Dr. Lugae... it's the same screen shared for any full item list that doesn't quite have "enough" space for the key item.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: "Twin" Command
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:29:55 AM »
The AGI difference required for a particular twin to always be selected must be greater than 10. That means that the Assassin Dagger in general is the different maker (when you consider all the other AGI boosting equipment) when it comes to which twin's Intellect is used.

Please note Porom's AGI advantage stems from having a slightly higher AGI naturally, and having a 4/8 chance of gaining it... whereas Palom only has a 3/8 chance.

Since this thread (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=929937&topic=51477370) was started, I've started to look into Twin more.

If Palom's AGI = Porom's AGI, the game uses the character you select the command with. The AGI range of difference (both twins AGI don't necessary have to be the same, they simply have to be close to each other) I have yet to determine, but it's perhaps a 4-8 AGI point difference.

If Palom's AGI > Porom's AGI, the game selects Palom's Intellect to be used.

If Palom's AGI < Porom's AGI, the game selects Porom's Intellect to be used.

Size has increased dramatically, but overall speed has not scaled at the same rate. The same can be said for RAM.

Here's an addendum to this info...

The attached spell fails to be cast when the target dies from the weapon's attack... but also if the weapon misses its target.

This is ultimately why you would almost never see the extra spell being cast on the Platinum Toad as it casts Blink when hurt with physical attacks.

Grah, I lose this week to the choking Cowboys. I'm 0-2 on SNF...  :wtf:

Lots of upsets, and Hasslebeck is becoming the next David Carr or McNabb... hmmm.
