Dbi News / Re: Final Fantasy II *is* Easy Type

I can post some things later, I've got the locations of a few subroutines I edited and most of the menu code has just been shifted ahead a bit. I'll make a thread in R&D when I get the chance.

Ambidextrous characters cannot equip shields in the SNES version; they will "dance" in the shop menu when buying one, but the shield will be grayed out in the menu. In battle the shield is lit up but you're prevented from equipping it in either hand. I suspect this has to do with the fact that the character has two dominate hands, shields are probably coded to only work in the recessive hand. There's also a dummied handedness that only allows shields to be equipped - it gives the character two recessive hands.

This was changed for the GBA version, both Yang and Edge can equip the Hero's Shield in either or both of their hands.

Speaking of offsets (and sorry for the off-topicness): do you have the offset differences for version 1.0 and 1.1 of FF2us? I know you've been working on it, and I thought you might have more info in this area than I've collected so far.

Everything non-code or menu related seems to be in the same places in every version.

Game Modification Station / Re: Using RS3ExTool2 to import music

Anybody have any concrete guide(s) yet?  I still can't get anything to work.

Pretty much the same boat we're in. It's a shame too, I was really hoping this program would be the breakthrough we needed to include some music from games that don't use the same SPC core as FF6 in Pandora's Box.

Not a bad idea at all! When I update the news tonight I'll include all the ones that were on the previous updates. :relom:

:edit:

It is done. From now on a new one will be added each day.

All the offsets are the same between Easy Type and FF2us, all I did was copy pretty much everything over in large chunks, if you want to know where anything specifically was located let me know. Feel free to base a hack on it if you want.

It's a thread at Mnrogar's, I forgot you needed to register to view the general discussion forum there.

There's this annoying guy in the FF4A boards (VeghEsther) that sounds like a complete idiot when it comes to this game. He requires that Cecil is at level 40 once he's converted to a Paladin, only so that Rydia learns all her level 3 elemental spells by the time you get her back (or was it by the time you needed it for say Leviathan). The guy has never found Summoner harvesting apparently...

That FF4a board is still alive? It was pretty much dead when I stopped posting there. As for VeghEsther, it's not human.

Hey, that looks pretty solid. Everything is understandable.

Yep, I agree.

Just click the date you want, enter the title (The text you want to appear on the calendar), uncheck "Link Event To Post," and click Post. Feel free to add whatever you want to it, it's definitely underused.

This one never made it in, I caught it in my script:

Sentry<line>
^Understood, sire!<line>
Take cave!"<end>

Well, you do need to go through the cave, perhaps he was just reminding you of that...

The Hacks section has a nice layout now, shame this stupid redesign makes the tables so tiny. :lame:
They need to ditch that border entirely, it's pointless.

My username and password aren't working either.

Meh, I liked the old design better, that easily could've been adapted to this new layout. What's with the huge border around the main site? It's wasting a ton of space.

Four was my other guess for Magna Roaders, in fact that's almost what I posted but I kept thinking there were more than that.

The first message is found in Figaro Castle in the WoR, the entry at the top of Edgar's tower:

Quote
I hear that some fanatical members of
the Cult of Kefka insist on spelling
Kefka's name with Cs instead of Ks.

That just seems silly to me. Kefka's
Kefka. He's still the same villain, no
matter how you spell his name!

The other one I posted earlier is never found in the game, it's in the script, replaces the "Error. Contact Development Team" message that was present in every other version.

:edit:

ebmid2's comment in this thread actually made me laugh, only because it was exactly what I was thinking:

What? Are you suggesting that many people spontaneously change Edgar's name to Gerad on their first time through the game?

Pandora's Box / Re: Suggestions

I'm not positive on the number, but I think the script has been rewritten 4 or 5 times since that demo.

Not to mention another one taking place right now, although it's less of a rewrite and more of a "make sure everything fits with all eight fonts and pull out all the forced linebreaks" thing. Still, it gives me another opportunity to catch any errors, and once the script is 100% complete I plan on sending it to a few people to proofread. The demo was thrown together in a few days, we simply didn't have the time to bother fixing all the known issues before we released it.
