I added my desired starting actor (Edward) during the opening events then changed the character shown then removed Cecil from the party before the screen loads. Seems to work for me pretty well! (I'm going by memory, I can't get to my laptop with the rom right now. If it doesn't work I can check it later if you want)

Though I'm sure there's a better way to do it through direct editing.

Also, I'm starting from the ground up so I don't have to deal with my desired starting character not showing up in events.

There's Entroper's FF4MapEdit

Works pretty well!

Using a brand new ROM, I'm able to get the event calls out of bounds 106/89 to occur by deleting all of the triggers in Baron except for the overworld ones.

Oddly enough, if I delete all of the triggers, it's just fine. Stranger still, is if I do this to a fresh ROM, it ends up with the same error between the two ff4kster versions (106/89 event call), whereas my hack has issues with the new overworld-editting version only (originally 110/89 event call, but I somehow after doing something with triggers got it to 110/92).

Anyway, deleting a certain trigger or triggers in Baron is kinda weird, so best to avoid it without doing a backup first.

Hi all!

The RHDN version of ff4kster correctly loads my ROM hack. The timecave version (August 9th, 2015) does not, and gives me this error:

Applying finishing touches... EVENT CALL OUT OF BOUNDS: 110/89

I was really curious because I thought (from one of chillyfeez posts) that there was an 86 event call limit.

So, I went through every single trigger and found a bunch that were 89. Changed them to 86. Still can't load correctly.

I start mashing buttons in the event call (insert key especially) and gradually increased it to 92 (first 90, then I use the old version, then 91, old version, 92...). I haven't been able to increase it beyond that yet. I was hoping to get it to 110 so I could edit my ROM with the ff4kster version that has overworld trigger modifying.

Some notes:

The hack uses only the FF4 engine and graphics. It's about 1 hour playable using cheat armor to bypass the grinding, so there's some events and maps (that took me way more than an hour to make, lol). I don't want anyone trying hard to fix the problem, this is more of an oddity.

The hack is a very vulgar (though not particularly offensive to individuals or groups but definitely terrible) attempt at playing with ff4kster while I write the story for an original sci-fi RPG using the FF4 engine.

And now... for my next trick... overworld triggers are now editable!! Timecave version updated.

It currently doesn't let you add or delete them, but you can certainly edit them. If anyone figures out where the pointers to the start/end of the overworld/undergound/moon lists are and how they're handled, then I might be able to add that functionality. But until then, those lists will remain fixed size.

Hi! Unless I'm missing something, I can't seem to edit the overworld triggers. I then checked the date of the quoted post (August 9th 2015) and both github and RHDN have a last modified of August 5th 2015. I also attempted to scour the posts for a link to the Timecave version, but I think it was edited out and replaced with github.

Does the Timecave link still exist, and can it be reposted? Or the github version updated... or, I'm entirely mistaken and apologize :)

Thanks!

:edit: For some reason I thought to search timecave.net instead of just timecave and it came right up!

in the future for anybody else :)

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Been playing through your hack and absolutely love it! I just got Palom and Porom.

I really, really like that it's taking awhile to get the airship, and that you're required to use the black chocobo for more than just the magnetic cave.

Love that Edward is actually useful. He made my final team in FF4A and TAY (yay Android remake! Sure, they just reused the FF4 engine, but hey, it's FF4!). He and Golbez are my two favorite characters. I can't wait to get him back! (I read through Grimoire's let's play and got very excited to play it, so I've got an idea of what's coming up next).

I chuckled at the Captain Planet reference.

Gave me the drive to make a hack that won't end up as a spoof! ... we'll see how long those good intentions last.

Anyway, thanks to you and everyone for ff4kster and the awesome hack!
