FF6: Rewriting the story thoughts
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:34:28 AM »
I don't know about the rest of you but I just skip the story now. I've read it 1000 times and any rewrite would generally end up following the same plot.
So I was thinking of just butchering the story aspect by creating an "Abridged" style comedy in it's place. Stuff like NPCs playing up their parts of being either utterly useless or too well informed to be a casual conversation. Some characters could care a less about a situation (Watching Thamasa's house burn) until bribed with treasure. Plus swearing, sexuality and "that one guy whose too into roleplaying as himself". Maybe steal Monty Python (& The Holy Grail) and old D&D jokes.

The question is, would this seem like an entertaining experience to play through or would it just irritate anyone who touches my rom hack?
I wanna know if it's worth the effort.

Depends on whether you pull it off well or not. Most attempts I've seen haven't.

In those failed attempts, did you simply skip everything or did you quit because of it?

Put it this way: I quit RPGOne's retrans because it was really, really dry. And that's a serious rework.

As far as silly rewrites, the ones that are completely juvenile or are full of spelling mistakes just put me off. It's my opinion that a good silly rewrite would be one where the characters make fun of the script's quirks and break the fourth wall. That would be one I would play through.

I'm a bit of a grammar nazi so spelling and punctuation should be good. My computer lacks internet at the moment so there's likely to be some. I'm sure it's easier to spot when your not the one who writes it all.
An example of what I've done;
When Terra wakes up, she'll say to Locke, ''I'm still alive?''
Locke's reply, ''Yeah, the moogles got in the way.''

Kefka's new line instead of ''Ahem, there's sand in my boots.'' he asks for a handjob. I don't particularly want a lot of sex jokes but in this instance, the soldiers look like they're actually giving him one.

I figure each story segment will have it's own theme to make some sense. The main influence is taking advantage of the natural movements characters/NPC's make. Plus I changed a few graphics around so that might help too. Banon uses Umaro's sprite so the party could talk about a monkey at the Returner hideout instead of 'plans'.
