FF2/4/ET Bug: Reset and Start New Game Doesn't "Forget"
« on: October 10, 2009, 06:29:51 PM »
I had forgotten this bug for a while, but it's worth noting.

If you've  selected a game, then proceed to reset the game, and then start a new game, not all of the data in reset/cleared out for the new game.

I'm not sure if this is entirely connected to Gamefaqs users having trouble in the failure to execute the Golbez event where he burns the bridge at the Tower of Babil.

It is most notable if your loaded save file has a person with the Adamant Armor equipped... it will become visibly obvious with Kain and/or Cecil.
When you play a new game, fight the Mist Dragon and make it use its ColdMist (ice elemental) counter when it is in Mist form.
You will see that the person that had equipped the Adamant Armor in the save file would take a lot more damage than normal.

It would be worth checking out how a game that has gotten though the Lunar Subterrane would be different than a normal game (seeing if any event bits have not be reset).

I assume that this bug would also occur when the whole group dies instead of resetting the game. I don't think the New Game function makes sure all the proper bits are reset.

It's not really related, but the DS version has a (rather nasty) reset bug as well. You can chose to return to the title at any time during the game, as long as you have access to the save menu. If you do this while the Enterprise is still trapped underground (it stays put, even after the dwarven castle events), and start a new game, then the Enterprise will disappear as soon as you land it for the first time in that game (its location is still set to the underworld). I know for certain this affects the Japanese version (I experienced it first hand), but it's likely been fixed in the US and EU releases, since they came out long after it was discovered. I was never foolish enough to risk playing through a good portion of the game to see if it still happens.

If you saved before getting the airship (which means fighting Cagnazzo again... :shadow:) would it be an accurate test? Better yet, why not test with save states?

119 bugs fixed and counting.

You can save as many times as you want. If you started a new game without powering off during that part of the game I mentioned, the airship won't be initialized properly. No matter what it's going to be a few hours of playtime down the drain.

Better yet, why not test with save states?
Ignoring the above, emulating FF4DS is not enjoyable at all.
