Final Fantasy V Research & Development / Final Fantasy Five Ancient Cave
« on: September 02, 2012, 04:44:27 PM »
Has anyone here tried this hack? It was made for the Japanese ROM, but someone's come along and translated it.

What it does is it comes with a savefile that places you in front of where the Ronkan Ruins were and when you step on the desert patch there, you get taken to a new map, where NPC's will take you back to Level 1 and reset all of your abilities (which you need to do to get into the cave) it works in a basic Roguelike system. To mimic the food issue in most Roguelikes, you have a time limit for (most) floors. Chests are Completely random and can contain Items/Weapons/Armor/Accessories/Jobs/ and Spells. Each floor is a random map (not randomly generated, mind you) with what seems at least 50-60 rooms (maybe less, maybe more) that it will go through.

I was thinking that we could look at the moving parts of this, see how they did all of this and to see if it can be put towards another use or an improvement on their original work.

These past few days have been spent completing the Location Triggers.txt created by Yousei and improved upon by Phoenix. In this there is every treasure, map loading, and event in the game for simple and easy modification without having to use external tools to find addresses and the like. The addresses are all present right there, but you will need to use a tool like FFIV Tools to move treasure chests to their new location.

In finishing up this project I used Zyrthofar's map viewer Extensively, since it shows you what is inside each treasure chest and what (hex number) map tiles lead where. In addition to discovering all of the Location Trigger Events and other assorted things was done through FF4kster so I could easily change events and add flags and the like to test certain Required Event Flag - Tile Events.

If you have any questions I'll do the best to answer them, but in the meantime here it is. I hope that this will be of help to PinkPuff in creating a comprehensive and well detailed FFIV Editor.

Oh, before I forget here are the Location Trigger Event Order (since they differ substantially from the normal event order).

Events according to Map Location Triggers -
(*REF - Required Event Flag)
00 -(0B) Open a door (or rather turn 4 tiles into other tiles)

Game Modification Station / Final Fantasy IV Spriting
« on: December 21, 2009, 11:22:53 PM »
Hmm, well I'll come right out and say it, I am a Baigan fanboy, and it has been my dream ever since I first played FFII to have him join you. Apparently I'm the only fellow that seems to really like him, heh... I had hoped with all the years gone by and all the progress made there would be a battle sprite of him ready and raring to go. Unfortunately that was not the case... so today I tried my hand at a little bit of spriting and... well I'll be frank, Im no artist. What I accomplished wasn't anything, sure it was an interesting experiment, but not much beyond that.

I would love some help in making this look... presentable in the least, as of now it's really not.

Currently using Paladin Cecil's Palette since the sprite is Heavily based off of him.

One thing I'd like to know...

http://img20.imageshack.us/i/ffiicopy00004.png/

ingame that shows that only 8 of the tiles are used, though the ninth one should be there according to the game itself? Is there something I'm missing there?

Any help that can be given would be much appreciated.

As an aside from my main hobby I've been playing around with the map creator in FF4 Tools (fantastically well made, by the way) and I think as a little project, I would think to facelift the dungeons. As much as I love FF4:The After Years, I was a little disappointed they didn't do much with the established maps. Well, I plan on remedying that. Unfortunately I can't move NPC's or Treasure (to my knowledge?) if I could, I would certainly place treasure differently, but alas... for now this is fine, well here's my map.

Now I did do a little event editing (once again thanks to the wonderful FF4 Tools) and despite how it looks there, it's not as simple as walking up to the Mist Dragon, if possible I would love to combine these mini map projects with Deathlike2's hack. I also strongly encourage more people to get into map editing, this tool is fantastic, and if I can create... well anything with my measly skills, then I am sure artists would have an absolute field day with this!

Only one thing with this though... I've tried to edit the text with the tool, and well... it does work, but the problem is that a know nothing such as myself is unaware of the location of the text pointers, if someone could point that out (and where they re supposed to be replaced in ROM) it would be a great help.
