Okay, give me a few days, not sure when I'll get around to working on it.

1352
If you'd like I can try to make you a more FF4-related background.

No, I mean the first one. Not being able to dodge explains it, that's where all the damage comes from, especially if you get caught between a few enemies who keep knocking you into the other one. Any actual enemy attacks are pretty pathetic though, and you're always overpowered. Never tried a no equipment run or anything like that, doubt I'd find it very enjoyable, I barely find Richter's game enjoyable.

Oh, don't get me wrong, outside of a few special occasions Runic is pretty much worthless.

Seriously though, "Run-stupid-ic?" How old is this guy? :lame:

I meant compared to the other two for the DS, while I still really enjoyed them I think the gameplay has "evolved" to the point where they'll never be able to top SotN. There's just too many little things missing from them that I don't think will ever be coming back.

As for SotN, from the minute you enter the castle it's really too easy, the game definitely needs a complete rebalancing.

I usually avoid this section of the site but I couldn't resist clicking on The Top 10 Greatest Super Nintendo Games Of All Time. Now, for the most part these are good games and I'd even list most of them as my personal favorites, but there are so many factual errors in here that I just can't take it seriously. Does anyone even moderate these things or do a little basic fact checking before they go up on the main page of the site?

I haven't compared them side-by-side but Mega Flare's animation is pretty much just Flare's animation without the "fusion" animation in the beginning. The Bahamut summon's Mega Flare's animation can't be displayed on the party, it always appears at the same place on the screen - I use that one colored green for Ultima in my hack since no enemies cast Ultima anyway.

Has anyone looked into the animation sequences at all? I'm curious if the ones used by commands or the magic casting ones can be given to spells, I know all those graphics are stored in with the normal magic graphics. I was trying to make an animation for Summon and settled on Dispel's since it's been cut from my hack; I really wanted to use the same spinning orb animation Rydia's summon sequence uses though.

I also wanted to try making a spell version of Cecil's Darkness but those plans have changed, I reworked that skill into something very different and much more interesting.

While we are at it, has anybody ever found the data for "complex" monsters? For complex I mean tile mapped monsters, like Leviathan, or Golbeza's four emperors.

Zyrthofar has those displaying correctly in his editor but I don't know where it gets the data from:

Turns out I didn't delete that data, for some reason it just wasn't showing up on my old computer, when I copied my saved email to this one it showed up like it was always there. Anyway, here are the offsets according to his notes:

Code: [Select]
$75100 $76152 $761FF Enemy SpcGFX Formations ( 2B for Pointers ($68200) + 1B x VL x 57 SpcGFX )
Notes: ‘FE xx’ means xx consecutive empty tiles
‘FF’ means one empty tile
Byte 0 Tile Number (Calculated from the enemy’s GFXPointer)

Hope this isn't too late. I haven't looked at the actual data yet, sounds simple enough to edit though.

Phoenix, do you have a disassembly of this command handy? I was going to make one myself, then I remembered (What is it with me and stupid puns tonight?) this thread. I'm going to upgrade it a bit for my hack, far less (Or maybe no) chance of failing, level 2 elementals, but I'll probably scrap the tornado and death effects.

I'm not really liking the background (You got that from FFOrigins.com, right?), it doesn't fit a FF4 site. I like the fact that it's simple though, looks really easy to update, I'd have done a two column layout rather than frames though because that makes it even easier to update.

Perhaps the reason why Rydia isn't given a chance to get the Bomb summon on Mt. Hobbs ties into her fear of fire? If she was afraid of fire if makes sense that she'd be even more afraid of bombs themselves. Of course this is a case of letting logic get in the way of good gameplay and it certainly wouldn't be this way in my hack if I still had a bomb summon.

Yeah, this is the kind of stuff that I randomly think of while doing something completely unrelated.

hah..  i signed up there, and am posting.

Saw your reply, well thought out as always, but unfortunately since you "attacked" an established member of the community on your first post you're probably going to be thought of as a random troll. I agree with pretty much everything you said though, I've been wanting to reply to that topic but couldn't put together a decent post. I was considering just posting a link to Djibriel's FF3us walkthrough, it meets questions 1, 3, 4, and 5 on Disch's list and just happens to be the best FF6 guide ever written. I don't think Disch realizes what an awful world it would be where everyone followed his advise in question 6 and made their FAQs nothing but...well, FAQs.

Hell, your website has probably tanked in the middle of me composing this post.

Heh, this is a special kind of irony. You see, Disch is the one who started the very site this forum is hosted by.

Edit: Ah, damn. You caught that before I posted this.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Nuke/Flare Animation Glitch
« on: June 18, 2008, 11:21:05 PM »
Found this when I was trying to make a new ninjutsu technique for my hack:

The glitch requires at least four enemies to trigger, I've used Nuke on the three BlackLiz formation in the underworld and that didn't trigger it. My only guess is the glitched animation somehow overflows and corrupts the player's location information. One thing I didn't show; you can get pulled back into battle indefinitely if you keep ending them with Nuke, I would have shown that but wanted to keep the movie short enough to put it on YouTube. If you're curious what the dummy item is, it's a silver apple.

I should try this on some maps other than the overworld and underworld.

Edit: This glitch is really fun on the moon. After battle you'll be in the same place you started, but spriteless, use a Cabin to get your sprite back. You can use the Lunar Whale to return to Earth (Open and close the menu to correct the all-black palette) and it'll be carrying the hovercraft. Land and Cecil will still be carrying the hovercraft, but if you get in the Enterprise you can put it down like normal. Enter any location and you'll spin instead of walk. Dialogue boxes are displayed behind the other background layers and auto-scroll.

I've always been curious if Soul Blazer and ActRaiser were supposed to be connected in some way, maybe it's just the fact that they share sound effects...
