Power Command
« on: February 04, 2008, 05:06:11 AM »
Increases base attack power by 2.

Time to command execution most likely based on Agility.

This command is most effective vs Flan/Pudding, even though it isn't a targeted weakness, but a complementary command to Kick.

FF4A Specific: Deadly increases base attack power by 3.

This command has always seemed worthless to me, in the time it takes for him to get a single, double powered hit you could have just hit twice.

But against higher defense enemies Power would be better than simply attacking twice, since if you attack twice the enemy would get its defense twice.

Well, with this info. I kinda determined two things.

The enemy type multiplier probably only applies against the calculated damage (even though defense is considered 0).

The elemental type multiplier applies against the attack power when calculated against defense.

This command is affected by the back row (unless perhaps a back row compatible weapon is equipped).

Here's an epic necromantic  :bump:

Poison prevents this command from being selected. However, if Poison is inflicted after the command is executed, the command will continue to be carried out.

If Yang is wielding a claw that inflicts a status (and the monster doesn't die from the attack), it can/will be inflicted by the weapon (barring status resistance).

Futher research via FF4A suggests that this command can generate critical hits (I originally thought otherwise).

Well, it's confirmed on the SNES versions that it is compatible with critical hits.

Also, research shows that it follows the Jump hit rate bonus as well... which is most noticable when you equip a low hit rate weapon such as the Charm/Fairy Claw.

A slight update, when I was looking at some data yesterday I seemed to have come across what goes on when you use a command. Curiously enough both 0D (Focus/Power) and 06 (Jump) are only "half" of commands.

Here's what my data managed to find...

(Address markers found in Cheat Engine so clearly, not the real address in a debugger)

0x72D4B8 - Atttack Algorithm?

80 0D 00 40 00 06 (When charging Focus Attack)

80 1F 00 20 00 06 (Focus Attack)

Yet if you happen to put 1F onto your command menu you will not have the double damage that comes from the normal use of Focus/Power, the same applies with Jump. This leads me to wonder, since the Command is quite literally linking to another Command, is it possible to change that which will be given the  x2 attack? Say you wanted to make a double damage Dark Wave, that only downside is the charge time of Focus. But where this data comes into play is a bit beyond me. Perhaps some tracing could help, but tracing anything with ZSNES is laborious enough.

I will say this...

In relation to your other posts, the commands Power/Deadly, Jump/Dbl Jump are commands that apply a status to the character. It would be most similar to Twin and Hide/Show, but I don't believe FuSoYa's Regen/Spirit Wave command falls into that category (since it's technically a different timer that's involved I think - no status change involved).

 :edit: Added Hide/Show

Also.. Spirit Wave does make me think FuSoYa was never meant to be on the the trek inside the Giant (Cid was the intended target) due to message after using the command...

Doesn't the message say something alone the lines of "Receiving Moon's Blessing" or something like that? I think you're almost definitely right with the intended party set up for the Giant, but this may have been changed because they wanted FuSoYa to do more than lead the party off the moon, when his help wasn't that essential in the first place. If they had included a second Lunar Dungeon that would have been a fitting reason to allow Cid to be used in the Giant of Babil while FuSoYa trailed behind.

If you ask me, Cid would eat up the monsters in the Giant... the equipment would've probably sucked (probably Silver/Mythril equipment across the board) but that's kinda what you would've needed anyways... although Cid could actually equip the Samurai/Genji armor set AND the Dragoon armor set as well (and not to forget the Diamond Armor series)...

Then again, Gaia's Hammer would actually be inferior vs the Elementals... at least would be a more interesting battle there.

The equipment/monster type distribution really does seem to be off in this game, but story-wise, Cid in the giant doesn't make any sense. If Cid was going to rejoin there, you'd need another convoluted reason for losing one one of your party members, and then a reason for Cid leaving the party again before going back to the moon. Besides, Edge with a thunder claw pretty much fills the role he would've anyway.
