best sega emulator/s?
« on: January 24, 2009, 02:58:29 PM »
right now i have kega fusion 3.6, gens+ 0.9.61, and gens v2.14 - and am not really impressed with any of them.  between all 3, though, i managed to cover all the sega systems i needed covered.

i downloaded some sega cd games (snatcher, sonic cd, a couple others), and am finding that i don't really like any of these emulators.  kega fusion just dies if i try to disable the sound, and i have to restart it. the only one of the 3 that supports my controller(logitech cordless rumble something 2) is gens 2.14.  and that one(gens2.14) seems to resize it's own windows every time it's not my selected window, which is really odd.

aaaanywho,  what does everyone else use?

Kega Fusion's fine as is... I don't try to tinker with too much to get stuff done.

I avoid using Gens, primarily because of the obvious forced color-depth switching.

I use Fusion, never had any problems with it.

Same as Mr. Dragonsbrethren. I use Fusion also. It has everything with it.

i actually do kind of like fusion.  i'd be happy to go with just that if it would accept my damned controller.  i would use joy2key, but it only accepts the analog stick for directional input, and not the actual d-pad.

:edit:

wow, this is strange.  i tried adding my controller to kega fusion again, and it worked!  now, if i could only disable sound without killing the emulator..

Weird! I have a Logitech PSX Controller. It works perfectly.

NEVER get GGE909 RECOIL controller. I could never get the DPAD to cooperate.   :lame:

Disable sound? Why?

because i like to have other things playing while i play games. there's no volume control in kega fusion 3.6 to turn it down(at least, i can't find one), so it's always really loud.

i've tried disabling sound in the configuration file, but when i go to start the emu, it just auto-crashes.

Ah you  like listening to music while playing. Nothing wrong with that. What Sega games you got?

well, i found some interesting good rom sets for everything from intellivision/colecovision chronologically through the gba, so all the genesis, master system, 32x games.  also, i picked up a few sega cd games recently that i really like(sonic cd and snatcher-a fucking awesome game), so i figured it was time to find out what good emulators exist out there.

Regen is excellent, but it does not support Sega-CD, just Genesis and SMS/GG.
