It completely breaks in IE8 when adding a new textbox.

 :edit:

Nevermind, just hitting enter breaks it. I thought it was the asterisk that did it at first.

I couldn't even remember the music until I played it again. I don't think it's bad, but I don't think it's anything special either, I've forgotten it again already.

I played a bit farther, one thing that bugs me about this battle system is that what enemies you can hit seems completely illogical at times. It makes sense that you can't attack an enemy when you don't have a clear path to it, it makes far less sense when you can't attack one and you do have a path. In one battle I couldn't even move Kairu at all (I'm presuming because Aurora was blocking him), which was frustrating because there was nothing he could do in that battle at all, and I ended up dying there.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Wii)
Well, I've just about finished with this. First off, no, the flan ring doesn't appear to have any special properties (There are flans in the main game, only in the devil's road though. I haven't bothered testing the ring against them, but I guess I should.). I also noticed that flame/ice equipment no longer makes you weak against the opposite element (The same is probably true for holy/dark, but I didn't think to cast Libra on Cecil during that part of the game). I got the main party up to level 50; it took forever to get Cid and Rosa up. I've got a save in the devil's road now and I've been fighting gray coeurls hoping to get a tail from them, but no luck so far. I'm doing pretty much the same thing in Rydia's tale, but with green dragons in the Agart mine. I've got about two weeks to nab a couple tails before the next...tales come out.
Yeah, I don't know why it's so slow, RPG Maker XP isn't slow at all.

I don't think they sell the Super Wild Card; I don't know if that has any special features other copiers don't, but ordered a GameDoctor SF7 from them and it works flawlessly if you don't mind something else. If you're set on the SWC you can ask about it on their forums, they recondition this stuff themselves and might be able to get a hold of one for you even if they don't sell them on their store.

 :edit:

Here's a Super Wild Card DX for sale on their forum:

Again, I don't know the difference between that and the DX2, but I figured you might be interested anyway.

I just stumbled onto this, it's pretty cool:

http://ff6sdk.webs.com/

A bit slow, though. You should be able to run it without RPG Maker XP installed (if not, you can grab a free 30 day trial from download.com to play around with it). The menu and battle engines are cloned, though the menus are a bit slow to load. The battle engine clone is very cool. It even comes with its own editor, since you can't add custom fields to the RPG Maker XP program (one of its biggest flaws, you can script in dozens of new features, but if you add say a new stat you can't customize it in the editor, you have to hardcode it into your scripts). CrystalTech (my FF4 engine) was nicer, this is more functional though, I never got battles working.

I just started on some indy rpg that takes a lot of flair from CT called Black Sigil. The story seems promising but I can't stand the bland music and the fact that when you get into a battle, the screen fades to black then comes back up with a battle (with more forgettable music). No battle transition or anything. Makes it hard to tell if you actually made it to that town or if you got into a battle a half a step away. Apparently it's been in development at a small studio for about 4 years now but there are some areas where it just doesn't feel polished. I've even managed to get the game stuck in some kind of infinite loop already (I checked an item early on after having checked it again and the character just sat there while npcs continued to move around and the music kept playing). I may be being too harsh on it... gonna keep giving it a chance for now.

I can't get into it at all. I'm liking the story so far (the tiny bit I've experienced), but the incredibly slow battles (on the fastest setting), paired with the incredibly slow walking speed on the world map and high encounter rate is really getting on my nerves. I agree about the lack of battle transitions being annoying, but I have another gripe with the world map. It's way too easy to get "stuck" on a town and reenter it over and over again before you finally get off of it.

 :edit:

I forgot to mention, the dialogue text's formatting is atrocious. This is something I've always taken great care with in Pandora's Box, and any RPG hack I've done, so it really irritates me to see the devs having so little care about the presentation of their story. They have linebreaks in odd places, single words on a line by themselves, single words on a page by themselves, etc. It looks very bad, I noticed it in their screenshots and trailers but I figured things like that would be cleared up before release.

Inferior to the ToToTek cart in some ways, superior in others. I'm more interested in their N64 cart, personally, since SNES copiers are still pretty easy to get a hold of for a decent price.

I've been considering playing through HL2 again. I kind of rushed it the first time because I was eager to get on with the story, and everyone says there are tons and tons of little details you have to go out of your way to find. I started The Citizen a few nights ago, but I've had too many other distractions the past few days to play it.

Oh yeah, I never posted about it but I finally finished Episode 2 the other day. I had played up to the very end where you have to defend the rocket from the striders and got frustrated there. After loading up my save I had absolutely no problem with that section though, so I don't know why I had so much trouble with it before.

I could make a ridiculously long list of things I didn't like about FF4DS, but the fact is that overall I enjoyed it, and am working on my third playthrough after taking a fairly long break. I played through the Japanese version twice, and the US version about three times. The game really picks up once you start collecting the more powerful augments and making an unstoppable party, the game was definitely rebalanced around the augment system.

I do have to say I wish they left more of the original gameplay intact, though. The After Years proves that they still know how to create a new game that feels like FF4. I wonder if FF4a is the very reason why they made so many changes to FF4DS, they had to make it feel fresh to get people who just bought the game to buy it again, after all. The amusing thing is that some of the original FF4 developers were involved in this, whereas the GBA port had no involvement from them.

Personally, I prefer the PSRAM option because it loads so much faster, so I'm glad they added that. The problem is that they never really perfected it (there are still some save issues when multiple ROMs are loaded into NOR), and now they're working on their new 2.0 kernel so I doubt they will be doing any GBA fixes for the 1.9X beta series. In the mean time, I'll just stick with GBA ExpLoader. It has much nicer interface anyway.

Whew, I thought I broke it for a second (not really), it went down right after I approved something.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Wii)
Well, I'm making progress finally. I got farther in the main game's dungeon, but I'm still just too weak to play through the second area comfortably. I really wish I had someone who could use black magic; I have a few magic using items but those are limited and you can only buy the level 1 items (which are worthless against these enemies). I'm doing really good in Rydia's dungeon though,  she learned Bio at level 32 and it just completely decimates everything in there, doing 1500-2000 damage against everything. I also found out the "save point" you start on is an exit...given the platform, I don't see why they didn't copy the actual teleporter graphics into the sealed cave tileset. This bothered me in FF4a and it bothers me here too. Anyway, the dungeon is a lot easier knowing I can run out and restock any time I want to. The enemies farther in still hit really hard so I may need to do a bit of leveling before proceeding.
:edit:
Finished up Rydia's dungeon last night. The last room is amusing, you fight "Boss Gobby" and three "Minion Gobby" enemies. They work kind of like the soldier battles, where he orders them to attack. I didn't try seeing what happens if you kill the minions before the boss, but the boss has some nasty counterattacks (level 3 elemental spells, Bio) anytime you hit him. I happened to pick up a bomb summon on my way, so now my summon command is actually getting some use since it outclasses everything else I have damage-wise. The final chest contained...Hermes sandals? I think the last room is a joke, at least I got better equipment throughout the dungeon (still no new weapon for Luca though, I really should have forged her a tomahawk when I had the chance, since she's been stuck with a battle axe this whole time). There are two locked doors in the dungeon that I never found a key for though, so I'll be going back in.

I noticed I got both characters up to level 40, which is the highest level you can get. The last floor of the dungeon is still relatively challenging, it must be designed that way.
:edit:
Finished the main game's dungeon, just barely though, and got a flan ring as a reward. It has 0 magic defense, and claims to reduce flan damage (I don't recall seeing any flans in the challenge dungeon, making this pretty useless right now). I should probably equip it and see if there is a special feature to it anyway, it would be awesome if it reduced physical damage to 1.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Wii)
I've made no headway in Namingway's challenge dungeon yet, in either file. I was mistaken before, the maps aren't randomized, but the minor treasures are. There are chests containing good equipment and items that stay empty, but minor treasures refill themselves every time you enter. The dungeon is different for the main game and Rydia's tale; Rydia's seems easier but you can escape the main game's with Teleport. I managed to grab the treasures in the first areas of the main game's dungeon, but the monsters on the second floor can kill me way too easily to make any progress there. I think I'm going to have to level grid on the first floor for a while before even seriously attempting the second.

I made a lot more progress in Rydia's dungeon, and managed to get to a save point. Hers is a sort of maze, where you have to select the correct door (all are trap door fights) or wall (demon walls...as common enemies) to proceed. I got pretty far in this one, but my supplies ran out and I had no way of escaping. I'm going to have to start this one from the beginning again, as I'm currently stuck.
Oh, I forgot about FF3usME being able to expand the ROM as well, that feature wasn't in place back when we started Pandora's Box. FF3usME should expand it to the same size (32Mb), but you obviously can't use any of the space it expects to be able to use. Take a look at the documentation and it should tell you what offsets will be used.
