NHL playoffs
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:25:19 PM »
The quest for Lord Stanley's Cup this post-season has begun.

Western Conference:
Flames (5) vs Blackhawks (4) - Blackhawks win series 4-2
Blue Jackets (7) vs Red Wings (2) - Red Wings win series 4-0
Blues (6) vs Canucks (3) - Canucks win series 4-0
Ducks (8) vs Sharks (1) - Ducks win series 4-2

Eastern Conference:
Flyers (5) vs Penguins (4) - Penguins win series 4-2
Rangers (7) vs Capitals (2) - Capital win series 4-2
Hurricanes (6) vs Devils (3) - Hurricanes win series 4-2
Canadiens (8) vs Bruins (1) - Bruins win series 4-0

Of note, this is the Blue Jackets first ever playoff appearance. The President's Cup winner historically doesn't fare well, with the exception being the Red Wings last year.

Personally, it's nice to see some fresh bloo....er, talent in the pool this year.

:edit:

Round 2 east:

Hurricanes (6) vs Bruins (1) - Hurricanes win series 4-3
Penguins (4) vs Capitals (2) - Penguins win series 4-3

Round 2 west:

Blackhawks (4) vs Canucks (3) - Blackhawks win series 4-2
Ducks (8) vs Red Wings (1) - Red Wings win series 4-3

I think those are the west matchups, anyway. :isuck:

:edit:

Round 3 east (conference finals):

Hurricanes (6) vs Penguins (4) - Penguins win series 4-0

Round 3 west (conference finals):

Blackhawks (4) vs Red Wings (1) - Red Wings win series 4-1

Madness!

I would say Go Red Wings, but Columbus has cleaned our clock all year.

All of the games being played, and I can't watch any of them. Of all of the channels, VS is the only one available to us, and to get that requires a monthly fee of $80, because for some fucktard reason it's on the highest tier of programming Dish Network has. So yeah, I have to wait until things shift to NBC, which will be a couple weeks yet.

I'm in the same boat, except I have no interest in paying that much more for cable, plus I'm cheap.

The NHL was stupid when they decided not to keep themselves on ESPN (and ABC, which would probably air some of their stuff locally) so it would get a little more attention. Good job NHL!

I have no interest either (plus no money to do it with).

As I recall, it was ESPN that did not want to renew, which made the NHL go out and get this absurd TV contract they have now. But since the strike, they're up to two analysts now (Barry Melrose and Matthew Barnaby). They should be up to 6 within the next 15 years.

IIRC, it was all about the $$$. ESPN wasn't willing to shell it out, and out of the blue, Versus (it had a different name before, which was a bit ghetto) decided to step in.

Vs. was previously OLN, the Outdoor Life Network.  The station is owned and operated by Comcast, which is probably why Dish has it on an expensive tier.

Back on-topic, the Flyers are really pissing me off... *sigh*

One of Comcast's channels (I forget which) is channel 666 on DirecTV. I like to think it's intentional (it probably is).

The Stanley Cup matchup has been set, Red Wings and Penguins. A rematch of last year's matchup. Who ya got this time?!

Wings in 5.  The only good player on the Pens in last year's finals plays for us now.  Good luck!
