Game Modification Station / Re: Zelda Fantasy Adventure V1.01 (UPDATE)
« on: December 15, 2017, 12:38:30 PM »
Released a small update that fixes a couple message boxes, fixes the name of one of the items, and renamed some more of the endgame gear too better fit the theme.

Enjoy!

Very cool man!

Thanks! Lemme know what you think of it if you happen to take it for a spin.

Game Modification Station / Zelda Fantasy Adventure V1.01 (UPDATE)
« on: December 12, 2017, 01:13:51 PM »
This is a hack of Final Fantasy Adventure, loaded with a shit ton of graphics from Link's Awakening, the 2 Oracle games, some others, some sprite edits, AND some text edits.

Some Features include:

* "AP" and "DP" now say "ATK" and "DEF" on the menus
* All instances of GP & G replaced with the old school Zelda 1 rupee icon outside of the HUD
* Every NPC's now been changed, outside of:
 - Cibba, though his sprite fits in well enough that I haven't felt looking fora replacement
 - Dark Lord - same as Cibba, plus he's never really used much anyway.
* Damn near every normal enemy is replaced. It's a mix of Zelda enemies, a few vanilla monsters, and some from other classic games.
* Changed the Chocobo to something else.

Future To Do List:

* Figure out how the HUD is displayed so I can change the "G" to the rupee icon

Patch can be found attached to this post.  Patch to "Final Fantasy Adventure (U) [!].gb" rom. Enjoy!

Cool to see you're still around, Entroper! Last time I saw you was before the site went down while you were making an insane amount of progress with FF4Edit in under two weeks or so. I'll definitely be checking out you FF1Randomizer! I've been itching to hit up some NES lately, and this is the perfect reason to do so.  :yabin:

Also if at some point down the line you decide to go back to visit FF4Edit, I'll gladly be guinea pig. That program's a lifesaver for overworld editing.

General Discussion / Re: RHDN Currently Down

(TL;DR version of this post at the bottom)

About four months into the whole RHDN Patreon campaign, and a personal break from checking in on a daily basis across the few hacking sites that I frequent (packed schedule, been getting back into shape, etc) I notice:

- Seemingly no attempt at "professional web designer"- paid new features to their site that I can think of or notice

- Seemingly no updates to their forum like they said there'd be, as far as I can tell.

- People are still having threads deleted out of thin air for no reason

- They have less traffic on the site than Pokecommunity on a regular, back and forth basis

- Their General Discussion forum's still behind a paywall, and is probably still more thought-policed than a North Korean news station

- Slick and the other forum I go on are still far more welcoming and civil

TL;DR version: Nothing's changed in four months despite almost roughly $2000 in donations given, half the mods are still pompous assholes, and NC has, at this point, fulfilled less of his promises than Donald Trump.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you all have an epic one.

Woah, glad to see you back, Chillyfeez! Nice to hear you're still making progress on TFW.

Since my brain always seems to need a hacking side-gig, though, I've also been researching the workings of the Namingway screen. I think there really is a possibility that I could hack it into a PHS system.

Aaaand my mind's been blown within 5 minutes of checking in on this forum for the first time in what feels like ages.

But the other "problem" was that even with free access to all of the characters, there was no system for easy swapping in and out. I think Grimoire LD had tried a system in which all of the characters hang out in the Big Whale after the Giant of Bab-il and you added and removed each one by talking to them. But again, after much more streamlined systems in all titles beyond V, this lacks the user-friendliness you want in a good mod.

Yeah, recycling the Namingway screen sounds a LOT more streamlined. I went the Grimoire route, then tweaked the save point event to the allow the player to transfer to a map where all the npc's chill, sort of like the End of Time in Chrono Trigger. Currently it uses:

*12 events, for 11 characters plus an event for dumping your party for changing characters and solo Cecil runs
*11 NPCs
*11+ flags, to control which characters are available for swapping
*5 MORE flags, to attempt tracking how many characters are currently in your party
*Extreme abuse of the conditional branch mod  :yabin:

So many dancers were harmed in the making of that setup..

Speaking of the Shadow party mod, the other day I realized that editing a character's starting stats and/or stat gains in FF4kster resets their shadow slot to it's original, vanilla counterpart. Do you happen to have any notes on where the shadow slots are set so I can manually fix the pointers via hex editor?

Thank you very much, Grimoire!

Basically the reason I'm switching things up is because I was playing around with the instrument set for Prologue, trying to fix how badly I borked it back when I spent a month playing around with music. It sounded like drunken pan flute music when I first started messing with it.

Long story short - I unborked it, dug the vibe, had no real spot to play it, and wanted to pull an FF12.  :cycle:

Now the Crystal Theme will be heard mainly in crystal rooms and in the extended intro (Mysidia in Space with changed text).

Attaching the tweaked songs in case anyone wants to take a listen.  I'm off to play around with FF4kster and relearn some things I've forgotten.

I'm trying to change what track plays at the title screen. Instead of Prelude (Track 15) I'd like to have it play Prologue (Track 01).

Does anyone happen to have any notes that could point me in the right direction? Would be immensely helpful!

I remember having that happen to me before. Prowled back a good number of pages and found where Pinkpuff found the solution. Here it is:

Clarification: The new version will not fix an already broken ROM. It will just stop breaking future ROMs.

:edit: To fix namingway from having been broken by FF4kster, A7FCC unheadered or A81CC headered should have the following six bytes instead of 00s:

38 48 58 68 78 90

Hope it helps!   :banonsmash:

Eh, it wouldn't be so bad if they actually let people discuss it without an entire thread poofing.

OR if you could so much as bring it up over there without some RHDN zealot harping out "After all RHDN has done for the community, it can't ASK for money? HERR DERR DERR" *thread gets deleted and you get a picture of a horse's head attached to a threat PM'ed to you by a mod*

That site's community's given that site more than that site could ever give back to them - an existence.

And all this because of a forum update maybe 3 dozen people actually wanted.  :lame:

The main page doesn't even fully load.

I noticed that the other day. Also, downloads keep randomly cutting off on me when I'm over there. Tried for an hour to get a text editor for Ocarina of Time (1.5mb), and basically was refreshing the page and waiting for 8761235 pictures of SMB1 hacks to load the whole time.

I wouldn't be suprised if this site or another similar place took over as the ROM hacking central site.

Actually that would be pretty great, or if more than just 3 or 4 so sites had similar databases as RHDN has.

Locking out the forums is a bad move IMO

I mean it'd be one thing if the site was just in dire straits and desperately needed money, but even that patreon announcement post comes across as: "It's YOUR fault we decided to drastically update our site because 30 people wanted Facebook and Twitter buttons, so now YOU need to pay a monthly fee for stuff that's already been around for 15-odd years so we can pay a 3rd party to continue to do the exact same thing we've been doing - fixing something that wasn't broken.

Yay, tweets!   :lame:"

Awesome, I'll get started on it here in a little bit!

I'll try copying how your avatar looks and use one of the Rydia portraits as base, since it looks like she's the character you're replacing with Leonora.

Those sprites are looking pretty good! Especially the overworld/npc sprite of her.

What's her portrait look like in the After Years? It's been awhile since I played that one.

It's been awhile since I messed around with FF4, but I'm down for taking a crack at her portrait if you don't posting a pic of it for me and perhaps giving me a day or so to get back in the groove. I've been meaning to jump back into tinkering with sprites so this would be a great brush up. :)

I would like to point out, Bahamut, that I don't want to see anything from BHDN spill on over to here. Cause then you'd draw my ire, and I don't think we want that to happen.

No worries. I go there and here for the laid back and friendly atmospheres, not to stir pots. Everything's got it's place and it'll stay that way.

Thank for you for the kind heads up though. And I don't mean that as sarcasm, either - it's genuinely a relief to  get a heads up, rather than some of the out-of-nowhere, Godfather-sounding PM's I've gotten on RHDN about little to nothing.

Holy hell, I never thought this whole thing would reach /pol/.  Makes me wonder just how big this fiasco exploded.

Yeah, I noticed the odd goings on there kind of exploded in escalation after Mr.Richard got reamed for submitting the "CNN Sucks" hack.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure 4chan members made that hack to begin with. I mean, that could explain why a copypasta of a random owner of a random rom hacking now exists.
