A quick question about the original Japanese version text.
« on: February 22, 2012, 11:18:34 PM »
I'm putting together a spreadsheet that details all the associated abilities of all the jobs and characters for the entire Final Fantasy series.

I'm including literal translations. I hit a little snag in that I can't find the original Japanese text for one of the Terrain/Gaia effects.
Specifically the one called Faen Fantom. Any one know what it is?

I could provide a snapshot later on when you're casting that spell, but if you want to see it in action, here's what the algorithm FAQ says:

Code: [Select]
TERRAIN
1) Let N1 = (0..Level)
2) If N1 < 11, cast Spell 1
3) If 11 <= N1 < 21, cast Spell 2
4) If 21 <= N1 < 51, cast Spell 3
5) If N1 >= 51, cast Spell 4

The following is a table of possible spells that will be cast, depending
on the terrain type the party is currently on.  I have not, at this time,
identified which entry corresponds to which terrain type.

             Spell 1       Spell 2        Spell 3       Spell 4
Terrain 5    Tsunami       Faen Fantom    Whirlpool     Big Tsunami
Terrain 30   Tsunami       Faen Fantom    Whirlpool     Big Tsunami

Terrain 5

Terrain 30

Edit: Found this link, maybe is accurate...:

And this one has an image of the attack...

Thanks a lot! Just what I needed.

Now the only question left is... what the HELL is a 'Fe-n' Phantom?

Edit: Research prevails!!

フェーン (n) (abbr) (See フェーン現象) Foehn phenomenon.

A föhn wind or foehn wind is a type of dry down-slope wind that occurs in the lee (downwind side) of a mountain range. It is a rain shadow wind that results from the subsequent adiabatic warming of air that has dropped most of its moisture on windward slopes (see orographic lift). As a consequence of the different adiabatic lapse rates of moist and dry air, the air on the leeward slopes becomes warmer than equivalent elevations on the windward slopes. Föhn winds can raise temperatures by as much as 30 °C (54 °F)[1] in just a matter of hours. Central Europe enjoys a warmer climate due to the Föhn, as moist winds off the Mediterranean Sea blow over the Alps.

So... Foehn Phantom.
