Title: Issue With Patching, Could Use Some Help
Post by: LightPhoenix on October 13, 2011, 12:47:39 AM
I was hoping to try PB, but I can't get xdelta to patch the game.  I've confirmed with NRST and the readme file that I have the correct ROM - both the CDC32 and MD5 match.  I downloaded the 2b patch from the website.  When I run either xdelta program listed in the readme, it gives me the following error: xdelta3: target window checksum mismatch: XD3_INVALID_INPUT.  I don't have much experience with the XDelta format, but I'm assuming this means the ROM is incorrect?  Any advice would be welcome, as I'm eager to see what's been done.

The ROM is incorrect. I had the same problem and it took me awhile to find a clean version of the correct rom.

Do we have the CDC32/MD5 of the correct ROM?  I was going off the values in the readme (which match the ROM I have), but I suppose I can try some other ROMs later tonight.  I'll post the info if I find one that works.

it gives me the following error: xdelta3: target window checksum mismatch: XD3_INVALID_INPUT.
I can honestly say I have never seen or heard of this error before. What are you using to try and patch?

It may simply be a header issue. Having/not having it can cause patchers to fail.

If I remember right, I had this issue one time too. What it turned out to be is that the header is different than the one used in creating the patch (yet another reason to not use headers). There can be 2 (or more) copies of the same ROM with different headers--and the ROM will check out as good in any emulator--but XDelta is picky enough to consider them as different. Sadly, XDelta cannot ignore the header. What I did in my case was to manually edit the header to match Leno's (since he made the patch). If hex editing is not your thing, I could probably make an ips patch to change just your header to make it compatible.

While that may be true, the patch requires no header. I have no idea what the issue is, other than that.

Thanks to everyone for the help.  It was a stupid assumption/misunderstanding on my part.  I assuming since the MD5 hash matched, that the ROM I was using did not have a header.  That was not the case, and removing the header with NRST fixed the issue.  Good call Deathlike2 and Imzogelmo, and thanks for bearing with me.
