chiptuning it
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:48:04 AM »
So I figured this would be the best place to ask. I've been wanting to get into chiptunes for awhile (mostly gb/nes style) and I've really no clue where to start. Trying to find a composing program (I know they are out there) and what I need to get the actual synth (not just samples) goin.

So not only did I find a program for it, but I've already completed my first song. You guys should like this. I made both an mp3 and an nsf but the nsf has some audio glitches in it. I think it may have something to do with some notes holding too long. not sure if it's just a winamp plugin problem or if it's actually a broken nsf. I'll have to test it.  the mp3 sounds fine though.

I'll have to fix the nsf. One of you might want to use it in a project somewhere.

Chrono Trigger 8Bit mp3
Chrono Trigger 8Bit nsf

 :edit:
found the issue. I wasn't breaking properly. Fixing it up and then I'll supply an nsf for those who would rather that

I have to say, I'm kinda proud how well I managed to get the harmonics

Hey, I like it. I got one for you to do now - the boss theme from Romancing SaGa. Awesome song right there.

Still learning things before getting to RS's theme. I have at least one or two more I want to do first. Here's a new one I finished in about an hour. A bit simpler than the last one.

Chrono Trigger - Morning Light.nsf
Chrono Trigger - Morning Light.mp3

Thoughts?

Sounds like higher quality NES music. I'm actually more of a fan of the "classic" NES instruments though.

I so didn't know you could attach spc files  :isuck:

That's a good one too, JCE...that's in the PS2 remake of RS1, if I recall correctly

I'm using Famitracks. I wonder if there's a way to get the original sounding instruments working on it.

Anyway, right after I posted that last one, I made one more since and also updated the last one a bit. Anyway, here's the link to the newest.

Chrono Trigger - Memories of Green.mp3
Chrono Trigger - Memories of Green.nsf

Also, all the original files should be properly tagged now (mp3's at least, not sure what's considered "proper" for nsf's). So far  I've been trying to keep them as close to the originals as possible. Tempo included. Took a little liberty at the end of this one

Errr, I can't get the program to open SPC files.

I request a guide on how you're doing this!

It's not a program for spc, it's a program for nsf - I posted the spc file as a suggestion of something for him to sequence as nsf.
