I'm fragged!
« on: July 24, 2009, 07:01:26 PM »
Somebody took a plasma gun, shot me to death, and then this happened. F wasn't as bad, that took about 7 minutes to do. C took about 20. I started E at 6 am this morning, and it's still going (paused for the rest of the night, will resume when I sleep again) and is still 37% fragged. :omg:

I know it's been a while, but damn...

that is pretty messy.  it's been years for me, so my drive is probably very fragmented too.  hell, i don't even have enough free space to perform a Defrag. :/  also, how does that "O&O Defrag" compare to Windows defrag?

It's a lot better than what Windows comes with. If you can get your hands on a copy, it's worth using.

Leno is correct. Windows defrag is  trash.

I've seen worse on this PC. I move files around, do mass deletions, create new files alllllll the fucking time, so I can cause that much damage pretty fast. =\ I've got a much faster CPU and HD though, so that helps... occasionally, it doesn't help a bit though.

what's wrong with Windows defrag, and how is this one better?  i'm not arguing; i'm genuinely curious.  my thinking was that any Defrag which gets all the blocks of the same color together without ruining the filesystem must be good. :)

What windows considers "not fragmented" (even if you just ran it), O&O will turn around and say "this is really fragmented." O&O is a bit better at sorting stuff, I guess.

Likewise, if you run O&O, then run the windows one, the windows will say "hey, everything's in order."

How does it compare to JkDefrag? That's what I've been using, and that's free. Speaking of which, I haven't run that in a few months now.

My ultimate concern is the ability to defrag the MFT.. I know there's a tool for that... Diskeeper I think, but that's not free.

JKDefrag seems like defrag++ (as in a slightly better version of MS's defrag) as far as I can tell though.

There's an update to that defragger that was mentioned (jkdefrag), with a new name... it's a small world.

:lungs: to your 666th post.

how would you compare Norton Speed Disk (from Norton Utilities 2002) to vanilla and to O&O defrag?
