Oh wow neat!!! :omg:

I would probably just go with Press.  Actually I think I already changed the name of that command from Dummy to Press a long time ago, if memory serves!

LOL  Hey chillyfeez, what's up?

I really didn't want to change one of the "normal" commands into Pressure.  I would only proceed if I could use the unused/broken command, since all of the other commands are in fact used in my hack, and I don't think it's worth dropping one of them just to put another gimmicky command onto Golbez (he's already got Dark Wave plus every Black Magic spell).

To answer your question though, yes, my intent was simply to have Golbez cast Hold on all enemies, at no MP cost.  I might have made adjustments to the accuracy/duration of the hold effect, but that was a secondary concern, because I don't want the command to be overly cheap.

Thanks!

Grimoire LD:  your work is impressive to say the least!!!

One thing that I wanted to do for my Playable Golbez hack was give Golbez a Pressure command.  The idea was to take the broken command that Cid was apparently supposed to have, and make it cast Hold on all enemies (kind of like what Golbez does when you fight him at the Dwarf Castle).  I was never clear on how to edit commands but it looks like you've pretty much mastered it.  Is this something that could be done?

Thanks!

Game Modification Station / FFVI custom "character joins" scene
« on: August 17, 2013, 10:00:45 PM »
Hey all.  I'm attempting my first FFVI hack and I have a question.

I'm wanting to create a new scene so that one of the existing characters can join the team at a different point in the story.  I don't understand how to make the screen fade to black but still leave the new character visible.  I've studied the existing character joining scenes but apparently I'm missing it.  Can anybody advise me?

Thanks!

chillyfeez:  Yep, I post any updates on the hack to my blog.  Or, if you're looking for the basic 411 on the hack, I'd start with the readme file:

http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/snes/patches/850readme.txt

Pinkpuff:  Definitely looking forward to that.  I'm hoping you'll keep this board up to date with your progress!

Hey guys, thank you for your replies.  I think the Pressure command will have to wait until version 1.3, it's just too far out of my comprehension zone at this point.

chillyfeez:  You can bet that I am frequent visitor to the resources that you mentioned.  I also never would have gotten as far as I have without FFIVTools, FF2us Multi Editor, and SMC Hack.  I really can't thank the designers of these tools enough, not only for what they actually do, but also for what they taught me about hacking, how to figure out what is what in the ROM, etc.

Anyway, version 1.2 of the Golbez hack comes out tomorrow.  If anybody tries it and has feedback, I'm all ears.  Would love to hear input from some hardcore, oldschool FFIV freaks.

Small correction to Shadow Flare's post.

Fake Tears/Cry is indeed at 07B324.

However, Heal/Salve is at 07B5A3.

Shadow Flare had both listed at 07B324.

Anyway, thanks to Shadow Flare for posting this, because it helped me a lot in figuring out how the dialogue pointers work.  Now if only I could figure out commands...!

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Command Behavior
« on: November 22, 2012, 03:55:46 PM »
There are many posts on this site where references are made to the functioning of commands (like, how to change the spell cast by Pray or Gird, which item is consumed by Medicine, etc.).  Has anyone ever compiled a comprehensive document showing exactly which sections of the code correspond to which commands?  (Something like, "01E890 through 01E8FF is the code for Recall.")  I can't find this anywhere despite a lot of searching.  Just curious.

I'm trying to make a Pressure command for the next release of my Golbez hack.  I downloaded Minitrue's summon command hack because that allowed me to find which sections of the ROM to change to turn the dummied Command 15 into something useful.  But, I'm having diffculty figuring this all out, and documentation like what I described above would probably be really helpful.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Dialogue Pointers
« on: November 05, 2012, 07:19:14 PM »
Is there a document on editing dialogue pointers?  If so, I haven't found it, nor could I find a thread on the topic.

The battle messages for the dummied commands point to text blocks that are only one byte long, not sufficient for expanding the messages into something intelligible.  So, I need to change the pointers so that they point to some blank area where I can put the expanded text.  The problem is, I don't know where/how to do this.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

FYI, version 1.1 of the Golbez hack is now out.  You can download it and watch an updated exhibition video at the link below.

The update has been submitted to romhacking.net but isn't posted yet.

I'm with you, Krystena.  I don't like strictly cosmetic hacks myself.

The Golbez hack has some new items, updated shops, updated treasure chest contents, modified party formations at a few points, tweaks to existing items and spells, and obviously some extensive changes to certain scenes.

There will be an update to the patch later this month.

My hack is fun.

I mean, how can it not be fun to play as Golbez?

And I sprinkled lots of little surprises in along the way.

Somebody should play it, because it took me 20 years to come up with.  So there.

This board is deader than Tellah, but even so, I thought I'd announce that my hack is now available for download.

I'd love to hear any feedback.  Bug reports, too, of course.

Not really holding my breath at this point that anybody will reply.  :)  But even so.

I was thinking that it would be cool to design some custom commands.  I'd especially like to do a Gil Toss command.  But, I haven't been able to find any documentation (here or elsewhere) that explains where in the code the elements of the various commands are.  Anybody know?

For the morbidly curious...

I've uploaded a video demo of the playable Golbez character from my upcoming hack.

Thanks!
