My FF2usHT & FF3usHT Playthroughs
« on: May 13, 2008, 08:51:12 PM »

i thought i'd take your advice and make my own topic, jce3000gt.

at this point, i'm in the giant of bab-il.  i stopped before the fiends to gain a few levels.  you really pumped up edge/cipher for this hack, huh?  at this point in a normal game, he'd be kind of a waste of space. with the 3 lv. 2 spells and quake so far, as well as his excellent weapons and attack power, he's really holding his own.  right before i left for the moon, i tried delivering the letter you obtain at the beginning of the game. i got annihilated 4 times  :lame:, and i decided to give up, go through the giant, get kain back, level a smidge, and then try again.

edit: by the way, the paladins were awesome.  the first time i encountered one, it destroyed me.  after that, i went in with a game plan and handled it a little better.

*topic title changed to reflect other hack playthough*

just started up snesGT again and i wanted to comment that these mods were exactly the "shot in the arm" that this game needed to make it super fun again.  you've taken my favorite game of all time(ff2/ff4) and added a bunch of content to it seamlessly.  :cycle:

I made the Paladin's quite ruthless for the time you are there in the game the first time.  :D

Glad you're enjoying the mod.  This is why I did it, to do something a bit different while still being entertaining.

I don't recall the elementals being hard. They have the same script as in the original version AFAIK.

odd. anyway, i finally beat them at an average of lv. 48. for some reason, the first 4 or 5 tries, rubicant would cast glare faster than i could react to it, twice casting glare them fire 3, killing all 5 of my guys at once.  anyway, on to the cpu!  :cycle:

is there some kind of trick to the cpu? i can't seem to get into the right pattern to actually deal damage without it destroying me.  any advice on handling it?  i've never had a problem with it before.

Make use of Haste and Slow.

You have two options...

1) Go completely gung-ho and pray someone survives in the end.. use Rosa's Rage spell so everyone literally does what I'm suggesting.

2) You have to strategize a bit.

Rydia needs Bomb or Sylph available (the latter is always obtainable, the former would be available by chance) to be useful.

Berserk+Blink has to be used, but I'm not giving you every detail to this. Use your imagination on how they are used. All you need to know is Berserk is where you get the strength to do the damage required. Blink is where the imagination is at.

Well, it required some thought... probably the hardest boss of them all... arguably speaking.

Even after all the FF4 research, I still came to the same conclusions. There's like one other solution, but that requires learning Meteo, so screw that.

does the cpu still have the same amount of hp? or is it higher?

i'm strategizing this time.  everyone but xlom is hasted twice(do haste and slow work on more than one casting, or is one it? also, they last for the duration of the fight, correct?). the healing module is slowed twice.  i've also got fog casted now. (i take it that that's blink's equivalent here.)

by the way, what's the difference between rage and berserk? anything? does rage boost atk more?

edit: is fog just a full-party blur? i see it costs 3x as much.

edit again: rage is a full party spell? rosa casts it on everyone, but edge only casts it on himself. odd.

finally, i beat it.  that haste/slow start worked perfectly.  2 meteos from xlom, rydia casting quake, berserked cecil/cipher, and rosa life 2-ing/berserking.

edit: holy crap, cipher just learned virus?!? this is so damned cool.  :cycle:  :cycle:

also, if cain comes back with a dragon spear, why did you give me a second in the giant? granted cecil could equip it, but he already had the falchion and excalibur.  is it for people who don't get those?

hey, i just stumbled onto an untranslated name. there's a "searcher"-type enemy in bahamut's cave.  when i encountered it, it's name was still in japanese.  just thought i'd let you know, just in case.

just out of curiosity, what would it's US name be?

edit: just found a possible bug.  the genji gauntlet(glove?) chest in bahamut's cave has a problem.  i lost to the pair of sorcerers( i beat one, and before i could deliver the death blow to the second, he hit rosa, then cecil, with nuke). and, even though i lost, i was awarded the genji glove/gauntlet and the game continued.

edit: the gigas glove is stronger than the genji glove? wow, that is a NICE piece of mid-game equipment.
