Gaming Discussion / Re: The best and most accurate EMUs?
« on: July 02, 2011, 07:06:10 PM »
Okay,  maybe not perfect but it's sure as heck better than Zsnes' abortive SPC emulation.  I can't tell the difference between Bsnes and Snes9x 1.53 as far as SPC700 accuracy goes, so...I avoid Zsnes like the plague. Super Mario World, Final Fantasy 4/5/6 sound like crap. As far as I'm concerned, it sounds like the real deal to me. How is it not perfect?

Perfect example - Chrono Trigger, and all Square Enix games used very strange, unconventional techniques using the SPC700, and until Blaarg wrote a new audio core, many sound effects, tempos, etc sounded nowhere near real snes hardware. Now that both Bsnes and Snes9x use Blaarg's audio core, sounds such as the infamous Lavos scream sound right. Zsnes doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell. On Zsnes, it sounds like a drunk person singing underwater. http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc20055/n/snes9x153_lavos_scream.mp3  This MP3 was recorded from Snes9x 1.53.

If you want an Snes emulator with perfect (yes perfect) sound and don't want it to hog all CPU resources, use Snes9x 1.53. Avoid Zsnes like the plague; Square Enix games sound like a drunk guy trying to compose music and Super Mario World makes your ears bleed.

Pandora's Box / Re: Two characters do not obtain Magic Battle Points
« on: March 06, 2011, 03:17:28 PM »
It's not a bug. It's a feature/behavior of not having the Magic command.

Ah, that makes sense, actually. So, what you're saying is they're simply not meant to learn magic, right?

Eep. Read the post. Crap.  :isuck:

Pandora's Box / Two characters do not obtain Magic Battle Points

Emulator: Snes9x 1.52 Windows port
ROM name: Final Fantasy III (U).sfc
Patch: Pandora's Box demo 2B

--ROM Information--
[Checksum okay]
HiROM, 32Mbits. ROM+ROM+BAT
Region: NTSC,
SRAM:64kbits ID:F6
CRC32: 36FB490D

This is a pretty major bug, at least in my opinion, so I'm just going to report it here (if this is the right place, that is). This is regarding espers and learning magic spells, see, two out of the four characters receive the points, but the other two do not. This happens regardless of which slot position said characters are in; the two characters I am talking about are Edgard and Matthew. Yeah, I know this is still considered a beta but I'm wondering if there's something I screwed up on, or if it's due to my refusing to use Zsnes (which people spuriously claim to be the supreme snes emulator). Has this already been reported?

Pandora's Box / Re: Cannot progress past Zozo flashback

Short answer is probably not.

Update the hack copy you have first.

Done and done. The hack is pretty sweet so far.

That issue was reported earlier in the week, and subsequent patches were released to address the issues. Update your patch.

By update you mean re-download the patch?

How far can you progress in the hack?  Kinda hard to get to the banquet when the screen gets garbled.

Okay, so here's the issue I've been faced with, after the party goes after Tina to Zozo and hears Ramuh's story about the Espers, the team decides to split up. Up until then, everything seems normal.  After the team splits up, however, the screen is garbled and the game essentially locks up. Is this a known bug or is this how far the hack goes till? I have my reasons for not using Zsnes (one, it's outdated and two, the SPC700 emulation is pure garbage).  What doesn't make sense to me is the fact that people have made it till Vector, or so I've been lead to believe. And no, I am NOT a noob when it comes to emulation; I've been using emulators extensively for the past 15 years!
