As expected this forum is teh suck [Eyes on FF]
« on: January 23, 2008, 11:10:13 PM »
http://forums.eyesonff.com/video-game-music-final-fantasy-media/114082-few-my-remixes.html

I posted what I thought game music enthusiasts would enjoy and this is the response I get.  but I suspected this kind of response.

Honestly, could people be more respectful?  Respect is something that is apparently absent these days.

I've already PM'd an Admin to remove my account and that topic.  I don't want to be somewhere like this (and GameFAQs) where the people lack a certain humility and or respect.  I'm only interested in open-minded enthusiasts that can appreciate someone's work.

Kind of like here..?

You do realize you aren't making yourself look any better with the "delete me you suck" attitude, right? That will come off as extremely childish, even moreso than the dumb fanboy response. You acted way too hastily with the quick edit, which will also make you look like a troll looking for attention. There are times where I wish you would think things over more, and this is one of those times.

I don't really care what those people think of me on that forum.  I don't have the time to deal with it.  If someone wants to see/hear any of my projects they know where to find it.  I wasn't there for attention--frankly I don't really care if no one ever responded to that topic.  And, I really don't care if anyone wants to see any of my projects ever again--what I do is for myself.  I let people know what I do because maybe someone else would appreciate it.  Either way, after reading that forum I've already concluded that it is full of GameFAQs style posting and users.  I really expected as much--I got what I expected.  What is un-nerving is the fact that all that person had to do was re-word their post with some maturity and respect and everything would of been fine.  I don't tolerate it when people could easily be respectful or mature and choose not to be.  This person's profile said they were 22 years old--they should know better.

I'm not trying to sound harsh, I just don't have the patience for this sort of thing anymore.  And I do have a rather short amount of patience--flaw or not its there.  Its part of what makes me...me.

For a thought... a lot of newbies that come to a forum think their stuff is the coolest shit on earth. Then they get the smackdown.

I suggest just see what other people have done first and see if they get bitchslapped.

I also suggest that you need to go through the place with a slightly open mind... not every forum will be for you.. some have their own peculiar way of operating, so it's one of those read+see kind of deals.

Then again, it is smarter to selectively post in threads on Gamefaqs to mitigate the potential stupidity that goes there... and I like bitching about that place... heh

This is actually quite a good idea.

I had an open mind by posting what I thought they might enjoy--maybe I jumped the gun too soon by removing it--but I've had a long hard day and I just didn't want to deal with it.

Most of the time I do that on forums where I'm a noob.  Forums like GTPlanet I don't because there are a large section of users who have a similar personality.   :hmm:

It seems like, in a very small way, you do for some reason. I'm reminded of what an excellent old-school person has told me.

Believe me, it is appreciated. You seem to have sparked an SPC hacking frenzy, which others have taken up.

I'd be lying if I told you that when someone reacts in a positive way it doesn't make me feel good--but that isn't why I solely post about it.

I know, I have a tendancy to let things bother me.  Again, that's part of my personality--yes its a flaw.  :)

And in the end that does make me feel good--as I think its good for the "community".  I guess it just boils down to how open-minded the audience is and how much patience I have.  In this case both were negative.  Sometimes it is positive.  Chrono Compendium has been a bright spot--I think some people are really getting into it.  Hell, Gemini flipped when I put up the FF4 data.  Anyway, I think the point(s) have been made.  I'll follow Deathlike2's suggestion and do a little more specific research before I post on a new forum.

:bah: @ Gamefaqs posters that think levels are affected when the characters come back in FF2US/4.

Back to normal ranting.

Most of the larger forums on the net like EyesonFF and FFshrine are infested with "forum assholes". Most are below legal drinking age, and some just like spending their time bashing down at others.
This is exactly why I prefer smaller forums, like these, where people are too close to "bash" at each other.

Forget those other forums. The people who really appreciate your work are here or should be able to find their way here (I was able to find my way here...)

The fangirl/fanboy mentality tends to abhor change. I suppose it sort of makes sense because if you're an obsessive fan of something, chances are it's because you like it the way it is. But they have an almost religous zeal with respect to whatever it is they're a fan of to the point where making (even slight) changes to it is sacrilige.

Quote from: Person from Eyes On FF forum
-never- think it's a good idea to change any of the SoM music again.

It's as if he/she is saying "How dare you change something about this thing I like that's perfect in every way?"

Remember the Phantom Menace debacle? Before it came out all the fans were like "YEAH MORE STAR WARS GEORGE LUCAS IS AWESOME" but then after it came out and failed to live up to the ridiculous hype (which, to be fair, would've been impossible), they saw it and they were like "GEORGE LUCAS SUCKS HE RUINED MY CHILDHOOD" and couldn't see the film for what it was.
Let's dance!

In an ironic twist of fate, the person that responded to you at that board has edited his/her post.

Edit: Wow, sorry about that I guess. Basically I just restated what you said in your youtube video's, you integrated songs into other games.

I don't see how coding a song from an emulator game to another is something that would musically excite me. Congrats on being able to make it so zone songs in one game are from different games, but I guess I'm not one of those people who are naturally excited about it.
Also, leaving a forum because one person (even if you were expecting it) isn't that great, I'm sure you have other coding talents that don't involve replacing game songs, you can always show us those.

Don't feel too bad about leaving... I remember this place now.
A few idiots thought that Arylon from FF1 was a man and that her leg was a giant penis.
I still pray to God every night that they were joking.

 :hmm:

See it's stuff like that on huge gaming forums that has made me avoid them over the years. Many moons ago I was on the CMGSCCC.com forums before they went corporate with Pelican...back when it seemed to be more about gaming... But the big FF site forums seem to always be like that for some reason. I've not been on one since the late 90's.

I work as a web developer for a company that hosts a large forum for our fan base, and I get to admin on there. Yeah there will always be trolls and people that are disrespectful. You should see some of the stuff we have to deal with. I've even seen personal threats to our staff over stupid things...which I nor the other admins put up with (instant ban). We do have a core group though, that are really good people. We even host a special open house event at our corporate offices for them to interact with our engineers and products.

Anyway, now I tend to stick with specific forums where most people are interested in a particular topic and are generally respectful.

And...anyone who snubs someone that is able to mod the audio in a game ROM, obviously doesn't know what it takes to be able to achieve such a feat.

Speaking of SoM remixing... Square actually put out a CD of a Techno/Electronica remix of the music and musical themes of SoM. It's Called "Secret of Mana +" It's a 45 minute long single track on 1 CD, and it's pretty cool. I like to listen to it while I build levels when I get tired of a game's music. I used to be able to find it at otaku.com, there may be other places that have it.
