I read about your hack on RHDN. Although overall improvement hacks aren't really my thing, it seems to be an impressive creation.

You probably know more about FF3 than anyone else around here. I would love to see more FF3 hacking documentation, but I fear without proper distribution your hacking notes will fall into obscurity in an ocean of threads (see the FF4 section).

I had a similar project back in 2008 when I decided to hack FF5. What I ended up doing was write a set of documents in .txt format and upload them to the old site. However, these days we have more modern tools at our disposal, such as the Slick Wiki. It is still quite new and could use some more features but it is an excellent tool for writing hacking docs. There are no guidelines or rules as of now, so you can do pretty much whatever you want.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck with your project! I hope you will stay around.  :happy:

Can you expand on the Agility problem?  I'm not seeing it; the Thief's base agility is being applied as it should be when the skill is equipped.
The Agility stat is applied but it is not used in battle (at least not in the first round). It is debatable whether or not this is even a problem. More info here:

There are two ATBs used by the game, one for controlled characters and one for uncontrolled characters.

I vaguely remember your hack from before. The hero job is interesting, but for the most part the changes are a bit too radical for my taste.

Well, if half the requested features were actually there I wouldn't have had to...
or at least I never found them and added stuff from scratch.
If only we knew more about the ROM. There might be a lot of unused data that could be removed.

Would you be interested in helping out in our wiki? It's quite fresh with only a few pages, but I think it has good potential if only someone could get around to working on it.

Works well as it should, Berserker has 3 slots now. 3rd slot is !Item by default, which seems a bit unneccessary. Agility/Footwork doesn't seem to do anything, as if the job is locked to a low Agility setting. Lastly, could you provide us with a name for the patch?

Possible? Yes. The Berserker doesn't actually use its 2nd ability slot. All you have to do is find the ASM code for the Ability menu and change some bits to make it behave like the Freelancer/Mimic.

I agree a Berserker with, say, Double Grip and Agility could be good. I might actually start using the patch if you make one.

I was wondering something about the patches section on the wiki. Some have just the page and a quick description of what they are, but there is no link associated to download them. Some others doesn't have even a page created for them.

What I wonder is if we're going to host all patches and have access to download them or at least link to them. I know some patches are hosted on romhacking, like the Ancient Cave to name one...
From what Lenophis told me, we are supposed to host most of the material ourselves, including patches. The problem is, he has not yet implemented a system to upload files for the wiki to use. For now, we can upload patches as forum attachments somewhere and link to them in the wiki.

If you want to add more pages or more detail to the pages, go ahead and do that. As of now there is no uniform way to do it but I'm sure that will change over time.

Also I was thinking if the patches should be categorized like translations, bug fixing, spinoffs, etc...
I don't think that's neccessary. If we did that, we wouldn't be able to see the authors of the patches without clicking them, and there is just a handful of patches anyway. I realize it would be practical for new users to find what they want, but that's what Romhacking.net is for. This site is more targeted toward experienced users who are primarily interested in information.

The URL should probably indicate what game the page is for, to avoid name conflicts with potential pages for other games such as FF4. I still stand by my preference of FF5 over FFV, but I am open for discussion.

When I cooked up the basics for the wiki, I had some simple principles in mind. First of all, we must not be Data Crystal. It is my belief that we cannot compete directly with DC, because their userbase is far greater than ours. If you want a site like DC, you can use that site instead. What I think we need to do is differentiate ourselves from DC somehow.

DC tries to collect some basic information on all games. As stated by Lenophis, the scope of our wiki is to document the fine details of just a small handful of games (although the number might grow over time). Since the scope of our site is different we will naturally do things differently.

Secondly, we must remember that not everyone is a charity worker. It is difficult to motivate people to contribute to hivemind projects like Wikipedia and Data Crystal (especially low traffic sites). At the very least, we should allow contributors to have two things: Artistic freedom and credit for their work. This is why I invented the personal namespace for pages.

Maybe it still needs some tweaking, but it can be used right now on every page related to Final Fantasy V, so you can easily jump to the main links. Here's an example:

Any comments?
I'm not entirely sure what this is supposed to do. It seems a bit redundant since you can use the Main Page, Categories and search to get where you want.
