pretty cool that...
shadow/ronin can attack 4 times and steal! you made some very cool changes here!
anyway, as for prayer, it was neat to bump up the success rate and watch rosa cast cure 4 with it. i spent awhile trying to get life to work, but, of course, no luck there.
YANG?

wait a damned second, tools and swordtech? he's a lil more technologically inclined in this game, huh?

btw, did you have to make new sprites for cyan/yang for when he uses tools? or does the game just combine the tool sprite with the normal sprite?(no idea how this would work, but i'm graphically inclined.)
Here's some validation to your interesting Gamefaqs pic: http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=575.0

This isn't guarenteed to be factual, but perhaps that was part of the development process that was changed drastically, and it is reflected as part of Yang's battle script.

Sprites are designed in such a way that they can be used by any character.

hey jce, did you make it so that in the battles in the imperial camp after the doma poisoning, cyan's hp would be restored in between those battles where you have to jump in to help him? i fought 1, and he finished it with 103hp, but at the start of the next, he had around 250. i was gonna use a potion on him at the start of that battle, and when i set it up for shadow to do so, i noticed that his hp had mysteriously gone up. i used it anyway, but i thought it was wierd.

sorry for the text, was fooling around with the different advanced posting options. :)

thanks dkk, that's what i surmised, but i don't know all that much about how the game works. anyway, thanks a lot for those interesting pictures. does any other info about the proto exist? like, since this is my weekend, if i spent a day or so lookin around the internet, would it possibly be fruitful, or are those pics all that's left?

That's how the normal game behaves, and it gets relatively little notice.

Also, the color clashing hurts the eyes.

I've never seen information about it anywhere else. The best place to look would probably be Japanese fansites, unfortunately language is a major issue there and automatic translators only get you so far.

hey, i was just thinking, if you read this gfaqs thread...
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=554041&topic=42569681

the poster named MeepleLardicle mentions some kind of "ultimania" books regarding ff4-ff6.

do you know anything about these? some of the things that he mentions are interesting, apparently, it goes semi-in-depth about cut out pieces of the story, that the manin character was originally a male, etc etc...

Quote
Source is the same guy who I got it from before.

He just didn't type everything out. He's been recently writing up all the info games left out in another style and publicizing it a bit, though it takes him a while since his english isn't that good, and he needs people to help edit it, etc.

Here, let me quote him directly:

I shall begin with the case of Terra. For we all know she survived despite all magic disappeared from the world due to being half human, this wasn't what suppose to occur originally. Terra wasn't even a girl to begin with in the first place, and was doomed to perish after Kefka was destroyed. Then Locke, he was originally the person who shall wielder of the power of Runic and is a dark, brooding man who is a friendly rival to Terra. As for Edgar, he was originally the character who makes annoyn speech and behavior that easily drives people into disgust, and this is one thing I am glad that didn't come true, otherwise on the next one, though. Sabin may actually die from the count down rescue event with the game continuing without a game over. And once you bring Edgar to the fallen building later on, he'll be spending endless nights digging Sabin's body out from the debris of the building. For Celes, originally she suffers from metal disorder like Kefka after she obtained her magic powers, although not as serious. Due to her unstable mind, she has strong desires to depend on someone else and eventually fallen for Locke who has been kind to her. As for Cyan, remember the pub lady who taunted her? Originally, instead random pub lady, there was a whip user named Angela that involves Cyan in similiar event. Tough little is discovered what role she was suppose to play. As for Strago, he supposedly has a wife named Lala, a geomancer. They are a... interesting couple you may say. This is an excerpt from their daily conversation: Lala: "You'll most definitly die before me!" Strago: "What! Look at yourself, you are the one has gotten more wrinkles on your face!!" ...or something like this: Strago: "I shall be gone before you, I shall be waiting in either heaven or hell!" Lala: "You are leaving the debts behind? I am so going before you!" ... and such, I guess they really gets along... Another scenario that supposedly should have happened was that Strago beseeches Shadow to remove his mask to him, for the sake of Relm, and in that, Shadow does so but away from our sights. For Mog, instead of having his entire race wiped out in the world of ruin, a total of twenty should have survived in Narshe's mine, and Mog must be distinguished from the other ninteen survivers inorder to rerecruit him. And finally, Gogo, instead of living inside of a land warm, he supposedly travels between towns, taking disguise in the form of the player characters. To recruit him, one must break his disguise by bringing in the character he disguised as.

(this whole sequence has a bit of What Ifs. He's writing the thing as though he's some sort of traveling bard, in order to make it more interesting to read, instead of just tossing out information after information. I apologize for the wall of text.)

Bolded Part is the Celes and Locke related stuff. I bolded Locke only cause he's a character heavily related to Celes' story, so figured it couldn't hurt.

Admittedly! I did miss the whole "Friendly Rival to Terra" part...which doesn't really say a whole lot, but hey! its there. (if anything, can't help but feel that only further proves my point as friendly rivalries usually occur between two characters of the same gender, but that's just a kneejerk thing.)

Again, English is *NOT* his first language, hence the typos.

apparently, a friend of his gave him this info from an "ultimania"-type book released only in japan.  i've done some searching, but it only turned up fruitless.

any thoughts, anyone? i'd dismiss it as nothing, but this guy is fairly respected from what i've read. thus, i thought that there might be some shred of truth to this.

I've heard some of that information before, but not all of it, and it will prove to be very useful.

It's a real shame those books were never translated and brought out over here.

i have more than a day left in my weekend, and not all that much to do. would it be worth attempting to track down any of these books? or would it pretty much futile? i know no japanese, etc, but i'm sure someone could translate if i actually found something.

ought i to bother, or no?

so, i decided to take the next few days and give ff4ET a thorough playthrough. hey, dkk, i have a patch of yours with just the names, in-battle stuff/treasure translated. ios that the latest version of your ff4et patch? or is there a newer one? and, any eta on when your new one will be out?

I just sent you an alpha of the new version, it's a little better and a lot more accurate. If anyone else wants it just let me know, I don't mind giving it out.
those "unknown" relic items are kinda neat. so far, just terra and celes can equip them. i assume strago and relm will be able to, as well?(maybe) i made sure to steal 4 from the ice rider(?) do they boost magic like earrings(which i hope are still in the game)? or are the earrings around to do that, and the unknown item just boosts stats and is stackable?

:omg:  binford 6100? i used to love that show when i was a kid! i still get to see it on nick at nite on occasion.
so i just took a trip up north of kholingen(sp?) to the guy-who-wants-to-build-the-colisseum's house...
are there still hero rings in this game, but not in the same spots? or did you get rid of them all? all i got in the pot was a "learn remedy" spell-relic.

neat little idea there with the ultimate armor foreshadowing at owzer's  :)
also, does the
lucky ring
ma wke you attack 4 times? i'm trying to pin down why locke is doing it, but i can't seem to decide. it's either that or the agile knife. (i think...)

btw, i LOVE the fact that guy/locke is stealing 4 times per turn now. it's pretty amazing.

last time i edit before . i'm trying to keep my levels low, but it's really difficult, considering how quickly i seem to gain them. i'm not walking around trying to level at all, and my guys are between lv. 18 and 20, and i'm just beginning to walk around zozo.  i've started to run from battles in zozo, so i don't get too strong. aside from the usual esper bonuses later on, is there any real reason to keep them low, jce? because, between the lucky rings i keep winning from the "slut" monsters, and powerful equipment, and the speedy level gains, it's not so much a hardtype as a very much "new' game. also, it seems like quite a few monsters have regen status, which is neat.

aaaaanywho, i looove it anyway.

ok, really the last edit tonight:

that guy at the top of the stairs in zozo...  WOW, what a fight! now that's a high quality piece of hacking! took me 2 tries to beat him, but i had to run through all my x-potions, etc etc.  outside of that, can you explain how espers work now?  i was fooling around with them, but i don't quite get how it works. they don't teach anything anymore?
