DTE does not work in battle, this has been a known issue since, well, forever. :tongue: You may want to take a look at that.

Square's (Well, I guess Nintendo's in FF1's case, unless Square did the reprogramming for them) programmers are retarded when it comes to DTE routines, in every one of their games that has them they recode them for dialogue but don't bother for menus and battle, the exception being the FF2 prototype. FF2us has Japanese DTE in its menus and they just removed the check in battle.

Doing another test, it borked around level up for my Thief...
