I'd already figure you'd lean that way.

Anyways.. this is the only combo available that would make sense for you.

Same card + 1x 2GB Patriot is cheaper than that deal.

 :edit:

Actually, no it's not, I just can't add for some reason.

The deal will probably still be gone by the time I can buy it, though.

 :edit:

Wait a minute, no, I was right the first time. It is more expensive by $5.

It's 2 1GB sticks... I'm not sure if your mobo runs dual channel, but you are better off setting it up that way.

All AM2 motherboards are dual-channel. For that matter, as far as I know, unless you get into embedded or laptop solutions, AMD has not had a single channel set up in their system since the Athlon 64 socket 756 days!

DB, make certain about whether or not the CPU you buy has a fan on it. OEM cpus do not, and due to a search of my own for an upgrade to my sister's PC, I Discovered no AM2 cpu has a fan on newegg. That is an extra expense.

I should be able to use my existing fan, though, right?

Yes, but you'll have to reapply the thermal grease. Get some Arctic Silver stuff, and you'll be fine. Personally, I always use the fan the CPU is included because of the less hassle involved, and because I'm relatively new at building systems.

I already have some from when I swapped out the mobo after my last one died.

Been giving some thought to this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127417

It's a little cheaper than the nVidia options, but the same card, different manufacturer got some nice reviews:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829

That one's low profile, which I'm guessing is why it's got an extra $13 tacked on.

If the rebate still available when I'm ready, I'll probably go with this 9500GT, though:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121339

Due to a recent development, I'm even more concerned with the cost than I was before. I had been considering overshooting the $300 a bit more to get one of the more expensive ones, but now I'm thinking that's not such a good idea. On the plus side, if things work out the way I'm hoping, I'll be able to get something much nicer this time next year (or possibly sooner, even).

The 4650 will be much faster than the 9500GT, despite the similar cost. I'd go for the Sapphire one as it's got a better fan.

i'll ask this here since it seems silly to start a new topic, and a bunch of computer types are congregated in this one:

when putting a RAM module into a computer to test it, i might have inadvertently touched the gold connectors first.  it didn't matter at the time, because it turns out the computer has a defective power supply or motherboard, and wouldn't start anyway.  but before i use the module elsewhere, should i clean off the connectors (i.e. to remove any lingering fingerprint oils)?  if so, what's the preferred way?

a bit of rubbing alcohol would be your best bet, i would think.  touching it once or twice(or a lot) shouldn't really do anything, though...

i wouldn't worry about it.

ATI does have faster products at the same price point, but I don't believe ATI's OpenGL drivers has stood up long enough to be even close to NVidia's status in that dept (especially if you plan on running Linux).

NVNews has a great NVidia price tracker... a GT 240 can be had for $60 after rebate ($90 normally).
