Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection
« on: December 20, 2010, 04:29:34 AM »
Inevitable port of FF4 to another platform, PSP this time:

http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/ff4cc/screens/ff4ccss122010-1.html

It's FF4 Advance and The After Years packaged together, with higher resolution graphics like the PSP versions of FF1 and FF2. I'll probably pass on this one. I'm sure FF5 and FF6 are on the way, while we'll never get a real port of FF3.

Oy. Why does Square have to port this game to every system imaginable? I know I just angered the entire JCE army, but come on, at some point you have to realize there's other games for the series.

119 bugs fixed and counting.

I knew it was coming as soon as FF1 and FF2 got their ports, I guess the DS remake just threw a wrench into the works. The only really appealing thing about this is that it includes The After Years, and that its fixes to the FF4 Advance engine will make it in. It's also supposed to have another small bit added that connects the original game to The After Years.

One thing I hope they don't use from The After Years in the original game is the awful 1.5 racial damage multiplier. That made Yang and Ursula's claws almost entirely useless compared to the original, not to mention all of the other weapons that have them.

my, how these video games have changed from our peaceful youths.  are there any "gender aggression" bonuses?

Cool. I'm especially interested in whether or not The After Years' awful racial multiplier made it into FF4 proper, since it really does ruin Yang's effectiveness. Here's my old After Years research thread you can compare the new version against:

The difficulty haas been tamped waaaay down on this one. I thought the game was bugged at first because with the exception of the scripted Titan earthquake nothing ever attacked me until the underground waterway. Mist dragon never even changed forms. I've done zero grinding. I even took rydia  directly to the underground passage without leveling her a bit and am having no problems breeding through.

Not sure, (I don't recall the DS version being very difficult honestly. It seemed perfect) but Cecil's darkness would one shot entire groups of mobs all the way up to the underground waterway. Now it just takes darkness and thunder from both tellah and rydia. I'm on my way to the antlion's den now. Also excuse the horrible misspellings in my last post, I made it from my phone and it "auto-corrected" the hell out of it.

It's using the AY engine though for sure. FF4 has been completely redone using the two tile tall sprites and has had all maps adjusted accordingly. I wonder how this will effect the flash back scenes in AY.

Playing through this one so far, I really just want to load the DS one back up again, but then again, I really enjoyed the 3d upgrade and voice overwork. Haven't come across any of the added scenes from the DS version. Wasn't there a flash back right at the beginning when Cecil was apologizing to Kain for dragging him into this?

Oh yeah, dunno if it's in all 3 games, but FF4 has a bestiary. I want to play some more but my psp battery is just about dead and I won't be home til this evening.

Damn, that sucks. The DS version was significantly harder in a few areas (mostly certain boss fights), but all of the other ports have been faithful in terms of difficulty, outside of some of the bugs that made things easier. It sounds like this version is easier than the original Easy Type...

I'm not sure what you may be referring to xlom3000. The difficulty is the exact same as the FFIV:A game since... because it's virtually a straight port, translation and all (except for place and character names which use the DS versions, likely because the script of FFIV: After Years.) However it lacks the prevalent bugs found in FFIV:A and is generally a more enjoyable game.

The Auto-Battle feature is a great addition, unlike the one in FFIV DS the battles in this are easy enough to use it sometimes. Not to mention it speeds up battles Immensely, literally the battle speed and even effects speed jump 3x to 4x faster and all you have to do is hit select any time in battle and the character will do the last command issued ad nauseam or if they can't perform it anymore.

The new graphics are nice and the face portraits are Worlds better then that garbage they used in FFIV:A at least in my opinion.

Despite early rumors the Lunar Trails are in the game unscathed, but no new scenes from the DS version sadly enough. A great game and a nice send off to FFIV (It's our job to continue its legacy from this point on, eh?) Interlude is unfortunately very, very, short and some juicy plot points are picked up and dropped abruptly sadly.  If you didn't shell out the 40 or so dollars to play AY in its entirety on the Wii  this is the best time get it, it even restores the extra Challenge Dungeons that were left out by the conglomeration of Ceodore/Kain/Hooded Man's tale as the entire first chapter of AY.
