The first ?? is most likely for Kain. There are graphics for spell casting... so if you are able to make something of it,   :omghax: :picsorstfu:

theres another thing too... the first 24 spells use the white magic casting animation
and everything after that uses the black magic animation.
Is there any way to make some more spells that use the white magic animation further down the line?

You'd have to find the code which determines said animation. Remember this code is also applicable to summons as well.

The major thing that was changed was that I set Drain's base magic power to FF4ET's levels, while reducing the boss's magic stat (which was boosted initially IIRC).

My only suggestion is that like sounding spells very likely have the same value for the sound effects. If you can figure out what channel that sound effect is coming from, you might get the insight you need.

I'm gonna guess it has to do with the spell palette. Pin's palette includes yellow IIRC, so you need to use the same palette that Ice uses.

I know it's here somewhere, but could I get a List of the correct status bits?  Yes, I know I have some out of order or missing. Please fill in, Thanks.

RHDN has a copy of the old Tower of Babil docs.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: actor "Yang's" weapons
« on: April 23, 2011, 05:55:08 PM »
My only guess is that it is hardcoded to Yang's ID number because it doesn't follow any of the standard attributes of any normal character... I would though suggest you change the handedness attribute to be sure.

 :edit:

Here's a way you want to go about it..

Use a PAR code to modify Yang's level... once you accomplish that, run a trace of what happens when you goto the equip screen as the stats are recalculated. There, you should have some insight as to where the code for this is coming from...

My comments were not intended to be negative... just my observations on the matter.

Otherwise everything else looks interesting if not different.

I'm not entirely a fan of a strict palette swap (since you're doing sprites) unless it was really good. Perhaps you should consider looking at Relm or Cara (FF5) as your base instead of young Rydia?

 :edit:
I remember a pic (probably photochopped) of FF5, where the FF5 main characters were bosses and the bosses were the characters... perhaps that might give you some ideas? I don't remember where I saw such a pic, but I do remember it existing in the bowels of Gamefaqs.

Here's a few small comments..

Sheila looks somewhat like Faris in her Dancer class..

Mindy looks too much like Young Rydia with a palette swap.

Sandy looks kinda like Celes with an outfit similar to Faris or Lenna as Dragoon.

IIRC, the item data references the spell visual #... I'm not sure how one changes the spell visuals for normal spells, but that is where you would start.

Sorry for the delay... I'm hoping this is posted correctly from the library.

Sorry for the belated update, but I'm still trying to figure out something for Asura or Leviathan to make things interesting...

I don't know how that last update got 87 downloads... I swear the bots are in force!

Right now electrical work is being done and hopefully this week won't interrupt much...

Although, doing some thinking in the library has given me some pause... perhaps I'll create a new thread about it but basically I was thinking I should get around to making an editor for this game. It won't deal with graphics (because that's not really my thing), and it cover the following:

Monster data
Battle scripts
Magic data
Item data
Item drop data
Scripted text (in battle displays)

There are a probably a few things that I have forgotten about while writing this post, but the point is that it's primarily meant to be a zyrothgar editor replacement (for the most part) because his editor has some severe bugs in it that have probably hurt the progress of ongoing hacks. I aim to program it in .NET 2.0 so it will be mono friendly.. but that's about it.

The editor should cover all SNES flavors and maybe other FF4 flavors if given enough data. I've gotten a few docs for FF4A (not enough for battle scripts though) so right now I have no particular interest in doing other ports that I have no data for...

Please feel free to let me know what it should have (as long as it isn't graphics related).

This isn't Gamefaqs, but it's close enough...

There's so much wrong with this info, it makes me want to puke.
