Introducing myself
« on: December 07, 2014, 11:20:41 AM »
Hi, i'm Tenkarider, i'm new around here... anyway i'm a member of FF6hacking.com and Insane Difficulty site.

I mainly deal with hard challenges and i'm hacking FF6 at the moment.

The main reason why i joined here was to submit the final version of my FF6 boss challenge hack: Ultimate Czar Dragon challenge.
As mentioned above it's already the final release, after working on it for about 6 monts.

Currently i'm also hosting a FF6 contest in the 2 sites i mentioned above, it consists in short monthly tasks(hacked contents under many aspects)
and partecipants PM and link me their submission, within the time limit.

Now that i finished that boss hack i'm planning something else... if it will be feasible, i'm going to work on 1 or 2 FF6 projects, this time they will be full-game hacks.

Hopefully i'll hang there also for new reasons.

Greetings!
I dabble mainly in FF5 and SD3, but I love hard mode hacks.

Quite a coincidence...
I just now discovered the site insanedifficulty.com. Turns out you are a member there.

While I'm not a fan of insanedifficulty because of previous run ins with its creator, I can respect the work that you have put forth in your various hacks. I am glad to see you here as well.

I am mainly an FFIV fellow here who has created many custom routines and have mapped out all of the commands.

Aside from FFIV I have also hacked Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy Tactics, and the .hack series rather extensively.

I'm known by several different names throughout the communities. For Zelda you'll find me either under Xu Yuan or Three Pendants. For FFT I was LastingDawn, and for FFIV I'm known as Grimoire LD. I'm not well known in any of these sites mind you. All I seem to leave behind are half documented matters or failed projects. Combat Boost is actually the farthest I've ever been able to stick with a project.

Lack of determination or time? hopefully things can change, sooner or later

PS. Btw i noticed it suddenly appeared Mist dragon as title under my username... huh? Did they manually assigned it, according to avatar's image?
Is it possible to edit it in my profile?

Post counts represent the avatars, yes.

I think it mainly came down to time and lack of true understanding. Too often in the old days I had to wait on others to do specific modding for me because I didn't grasp ASM  (I can read it now and manipulate it to a fair extent) or because the tools were  too primitive to fulfill my vision and eventually my patience hit a wall and complacency turned to a cancelled project in too many cases.

Everyone starts out as a Mist Dragon. There is supposed to be an image to reflect this but they are broken at the moment.

Ah, it was just by default...

I believe that FF6 has a plenty of hacking tools, i guess FF4 doesn't have the same luck...

FFIV has had several through the years, but unfortunately the majority had real problems of their own. The only really stable one was JCE3000GT's and the recent FF4kster which blows all other FFIV editors out of the water with its breadth and simplicity of editing. It too has some small, minor problems but the core system works 100% as intended. It doesn't quite touch FFVI's, FFIIIUSME, but there is also less to FFIV from a technical standpoint.

What is notably missing from the FFIV hacking scene are graphic editors. We have not had a single one to work with and those who dare do everything by hand. As graphics have never been my forte I've steered clear of doing any of that manually, but people like Chillyfeez has my deepest respect for his work on enemies, portraits, and sprites (sprites would probably be the easiest thing to do at the moment with general tools)

The lack of gfx editors is quite something, in ff6 it's quite user-friendly that aspect, especially monster sprites.

I know, it's a little bit infuriating seeing people create great sprite upon sprite for FFVI and yet not a single graphic tool for FFIV has ever been made as of yet.

I definitely agree with this!  Part of the problem might be the ludacris way Final Fantasy 4 stores the graphics, size/palette pointers, and etc.  Still, it's been almost 15 years since I started hacking Final Fantasy 4 and it just now is starting to get in the mainstream.  Better late than never!
