The community has been incredibly supportive of FFR, to the point where I've continued releasing more and more features rather than going back to work on FF4Edit.

I've even launched a web version of the randomizer here: http://finalfantasyrandomizer.com

There's a tournament currently in progress with 31 participants, we're entering the last few rounds now.

I released 1.0 today!  Am going to add a few more features for 1.1, and then switch back over to working on FF4Edit.

On a whim, I put a solid row of grass on rows 0 and 255, and a solid row of ocean border next to it.  It seemed to be okay with that.  If you get it to break again, it would be awesome if you could send a screenshot.  :)

Fun Fact: FF4 really, really doesn't like it when you try to add a north/south pole by placing long, continuous landmasses along the top and bottom of the world map.  The map turns black and crashes the game when the map loops. It also causes the rom to be unable to be recognized by the editor for some reason lmfao.

Hm, I wonder if that isn't a bug with the editor, rather than FF4.

Do you have to "land" it in front of a dock?  Or does it just land wherever?

My question would be how to make a canoe.  You could use the hovercraft, of course, to go over rivers, but then you're back to not having a ship, plus the hovercraft doesn't go with you everywhere, and it skips monster encounters.

Showing the coordinates is a great idea.  It'll also get a little easier to see where you are when I overlay an encounter grid.

And yeah, eye dropper is good too.  I haven't thought too much about advanced features yet, like area selection, copy/paste, flood fill, etc.  Eye dropper is one that's super easy to do, though, and requires no new UI to enable.  I've been putting UI features off until after I can edit all the game's maps, but these two are quick enough to do, and useful enough that they might come sooner.  :)

I might not do much to this for a while.  I'm kind of in crunch time at work for the next two weeks, then I'm on vacation for 3 weeks.  And I've gotta get FF1 Randomizer 1.0 out the door, then I'll circle back to this and get the underworld and moon working, and then take a look at how the area maps work.

What I'd love to see is if it were taken to the next level entirely and just have some kind of FF1 roguelike almost with randomly generated dungeons. Maybe even just one huge dungeon that you just delve deeper and deeper into with "town" type floors along the way. You could have "power levels" associated with equipment making it less likely or even impossible to generate end game gear in the beginning and more likely as you go deeper. I'm well aware of how much of an overhaul that would be and the ridiculous amount of work that would entail but it seems like it would be totally awesome.

The Dragon Warrior Randomizer is able to generate new maps programmatically.  While such a thing would be possible for FF1, it's much more challenging because the game is just a lot more complex.

I think a lot of interesting things are possible, though.  One recent suggestion was simply to shuffle 2F of Castle Ordeals, so all the teleporters go to different places.  That would be neat having to re-solve that floor each time.

TMPR doesn't work in the NES version.  :P  And it's much, much harder than the GBA/PSP versions, which were heavily nerfed.

A lot of things make a game good or bad, nothing is "the" difference.  Anyway, it doesn't sound like FF1 Randomizer is for you.  That's okay.  Plenty of people have been enjoying it on Twitch in the last two weeks.  :)

My point is you may get end-game item just at the beginning of the game and that is what destroy the balance, because you will have OP item from the start or no chance to gather enough gil to buy it.

I got that, but it's not really supposed to be balanced (not that FF1 was terribly well-balanced to begin with).  Some things will be easier, others will be harder.  You have to play the game differently every time you generate a new seed because you'll have different advantages and disadvantages compared to vanilla.

You can't buy Xcalber, because it doesn't appear in any shops in the original game.  But you can find the ADAMANT in ToF, maybe.  Doesn't do you much good if you don't know where the TAIL is...

It's a randomizer for FF1.  I dunno if you've seen Zelda Randomizer, it's basically the same thing but for FF1.  You load up your FF1 ROM, it randomly shuffles the locations of treasure, the contents of shops, the levels of magic spells, etc. and spits out a new ROM.
