WTF, the 1.2 patch works on the official 1.1 rom...and the script works like you said.

So I patched the official 1.1 rom with my 1.2 hardtype patch and followed it up by patching the same rom with the 2.0 hardtype patch and the script gets broken again.  But if I copy the all the relevant data from my 1.2 hardtype and put it on the official 1.1 rom shouldn't it work?  It makes no sense.

:edit: I fixed that issue in the one I'm using now.  Doesn't work.

Here's food for thought...

If you use your old hack and play it on FF2US v1.1 (I should've done a complete run for my own interest), the script works just fine.

Patch my old 1.2 on the official 1.1?  But I'm using 1.1 right now as a base for the 2.0 patch.  Why should that matter?

Post what the battle script does, and maybe we'll start from there.

Errr...give me a minute.

Once in battle its supposed to echo one of the Programmer's scripts from FF4--say a few lines and the enemy dies.  I literally copied all monster and event data directly from my FF2usHT v1.2 ROM where it works as designed...and no dice.

Which version of the editor were you using? The old one did things like that but I've never seen the new one act that way (Granted it doesn't save resistance changes, but that's a minor issue). You should always test and make backups frequently, even if you do trust the editor.

 :edit:

I do believe you owe Zyrthofar's editor an apology for slandering it, I just checked your first beta, you forgot to change the monsters used by the formations you fight on the airship.

I've made plenty of backups plus using IPS files.  I didn't slander his program, I just said it bugged my ROM, its a fact.  Now, lets move on.

I used the version you sent me.  It loads and displays all the data correcly, but I'm going to assume it doesn't put the data back in the ROM correctly.  FF4/FF2us is VERY fickle with this type of data--no one believed me back in 2000 when I was deciphering it for my hack but maybe now they do.  Anyway, this is a moot point since I'm not using the editor any longer.  Back to doing things by hand.

Heh, I take it you didn't try starting a new game? I could see if it was something farther in, but this is the first thing you do.

I can't seem to reproduce the effect of that battle like the v1.2.  I've copied all the related monster data directly and can't figure it out.

God damnit.  I thought I copied all the event data.

Beta testers check your email for Beta 2.

I spent four hours or more in that editor and it was all worthless.   :lame:
How much testing did you actually do when you were making these changes?

Zero.  Didn't think the editor would corrupt the rom that way when it seemed it was working.

that's why the first battle is screwed up? Was cecil supposed to be red, or is that a bug, too?

The Red Cecil is because I haven't swapped out the sprite yet.

A small portion of the equipment stats were tweaked.

And thanks to Zyrthofar's editor all of the battles are bugged.  So I have to do that by hand which means that will take forever.

Things completed:
-Transfer some data to FF2us v1.1
-Created several IPS patches of data blocks for backup purposes
-Slight World map, Underground map, and Moon changes
-Complete rewrite of the item equipability index

Some screens of the new map changes.  Two of the map changes just add something different and would be a source of harder battles for more EXP.  The third is just to make your life a bit more difficult, the red dots are where you can land the Big Whale and the yellow line is the track you must take to the Lunar Path entrance.  Oh and you can't land in the Hummingway area anymore, you need to walk there.
