Does this mean Ghost #1 and 2 get a makeover?

Yes, I already know, but Where's Waldo when you need him?

I'm trying to recall if there were any notable changes made to the PSX version of this game... or it's just a nice bonus... (FF4+5 could use that, but I digress)

Any reason to have that? Like, for use for a spell or something? I never find those counters useful for any reason.

Have you guys ever thought of modding font #3 a little?
Y'know, to have the letters look a bit more... proportional. Like perhaps using theTales of Phantasia (Without the blue pixel crap, and using the original numbers, of course)/Bahamut Lagoon version of it?
I dunno, but unless I say something about this, it'll bug me forever

A crappy bestiary (it's really not that good), a Colliseum guide (more like what you bet and what you win), mins/maxes of your party, the three FMV's, and some sketch art.

No, that font will not be changing, it's identical to the original for a reason.

Actually, yes I have, ever since I could tell it looked horribly unproportional and unbalanced.

No, that font will not be changing, it's identical to the original for a reason.
Fine. Just a suggestion.
My suggestions don't take too well with people doing big-scale projects.  :hmm: Maybe I should just stick to the generic "OMG AWESOME SUPER MAGICAL HAPPY PANTS KEWLZ" comments.

Have you seen just how much bitching there has been because the original wasn't in? It's in the RHDN thread, during the early stages. Some in the ZD thread too, when we were still posting updates there.

It's not you, of that I can assure you. We're just tired of the suggestions being focused on the fonts.

Unless you're taking actual bug reports or balance suggestions, it's a waste of time. The demo is never the final thing.. and I haven't played the demo yet. I'd rather be surprised first and then I'll do the bitchslapping later.  When you ask for feedback on something, you'll certainly get it from me...

Besides, I'm FF6 "hacked out" (just hack playing) for a bit. It's not fun until I see something shiny shiny!

I ultimately don't understand the hatred for the original font, even though it isn't a VWF, but by comparison, we're not comparing something illegible.

I dislike the menu font for the exact reason vivify pointed out, which made shooting down his suggestion kind of strange. I don't have a problem with the original VWF, it's just overused, pretty much every fan translation uses that font. I'd just like to see some originality now and then.

Edit: You're talking about the original Chicago font used in FF3us, right? I just reread this and realized you may have been talking about our original font...

/me is confused.

Some of you may remember this from a long time ago:

That was implementedmodified a very long time ago, not long before or after I made this (http://slickproductions.org/ff6patch.php?id=Tweak%20-%20Elemental%20Display). Recently though, we thought it would be a good idea to expand it, and make it more appealing.

It needs some revising.. IMO

"Throw" doesn't sound quite sane.. maybe "Throwable" would be more appropriate.

Does the ignore defense also check the ValientKnife bit/property too?

Is the 2x Jump damage property hardcoded or what? I remember reading that the new FF6A Lances don't have that property (not sure if it was fixed/changed in the Euro version).

Also, I wonder if there should be something that precedes the commands that get enabled by the weapon...

Any weapon and every weapon that has a form of ignore defense will be reported on that screen.

I don't remember if it was attached to the icon or the range of weapons. assassin would know, though.

:hmm:

Well, it's either that or "can be thrown" or something along those lines. Right now it's fine as is I guess, but it can be kinda confusing initially to what it means...

It could be confused with weapons that are thrown (Boomerangs, Dice, etc.).. hence my suggestion there.

Alternatively, you could actually move that to that command list over at the bottom. That way, you wouldn't have to rename it and can actually benefit from the highlighting aspect.

Come again?

I was thinking that something like "Commands Enabled" above the three commands you've listed.. I'm just thinking out loud.

 :edit:

Added a suggestion.

 :edit:

On second thought, I wonder if two-handed could be worded better...

Maybe "2x Power With 2 Hands" or "2 Hands For 2x Power" or something along those lines.

 :edit:

Maybe "2-Handed Capable"... or FF6A's unoriginal "Two-Handed OK"...

Also, how about displaying the spell that the weapon randomly casts? Usually that's part of the description, but it would be helpful...

the SNES Bank C2 function to give 2x Jump damage for spears just did a hardcoded check of the item #s.  since the check apparently wasn't expanded for GBA's new lances, those weapons don't get the 2x damage (that's per GameFAQs users; i haven't tried out any new weapons on GBA).  dunno about the Euro version either, but i'll guess Square didn't catch or fix it.

Yet another reason why hardcoded checks are bad. Of course, even a hardcoded icon check would have worked here, but with some extra bits to spare, why not put it there instead? :P

Prepare to cry:

If the hack were to be released today, that would be the size of the patch. Using WinRAR to compress that down as best it can, the size is 807 KB as a rar, 861 KB as a zip. That's not including everything else that will be included with the patch. So yeah, this is a threshold most translations don't even cross.

That location string you see at the top of the screen was set in the original game. It was even set to show up, however, it never did. It was probably assumed to be normal behavior that it never show up, but looking at the data says other things.

I don't remember if FF6A made this string appear or not, but I'll just assume it did since it made others appear.

I agree with Deathlike: Leno, you should get 7-zip. According to Wikipedia, and  this article they cite (http://warp.povusers.org/ArchiverComparison/), the algorithm 7-zip uses gets the best compression, for both text and raw binaries. So it's not just an opinion, it's been tested independently.

I am reviving this thread to show off one screenshot:

Seeing as though the general public has not been able to experience the music box outside of Youtube, an explanation is needed. Originally when this was implemented way back when, 2 songs would not fully play: The Phantom Train and Dancing Mad. The reason for this eluded me for quite a while, and it wasn't until recently that it bugged the hell out of me. Well tonight I decided to give another go at finding out exactly what was causing it. I finally found it. So, rejoice. The Phantom Train and Dancing Mad will both play fully as you would normally hear them.

That is nothing short of awesome right there, Leno. That's how I always wanted and thought the blitz menu should have been like, it makes much since to also have the name of the blitz along with the combo. Wonderful job, as always! And lol @ the Konami Code for the 'Master Fist', I did the same exact thing. XD

The hit rate should've been added a long time ago, but it took a discussion with assassin to finally get the inspiration to do it. :isuck:
Title: Re: Screenshots!
Post by: Deathlike2 on September 29, 2012, 05:31:14 PM
In the context of the original, hit rate had very little impact. I knew they were trying to differentiate the accuracy of weapons in FF5, and moreso in FF6, but given the dependency on skills or magic... I guess that has been a long time coming!
