Final Fantasy V Research & Development / FF V Editors
« on: August 31, 2017, 06:10:08 PM »
The only ones I know of are located here. But without an NPC/Event/Dialogue editor I don't think it's realistic for anyone to be able to create a full scale hack. Does anyone know if there is a full-feature utility in the works similar to ff4kster?

Final Fantasy V Research & Development / FFV Offsets

I'm really pissed the fuck off right now because I can't understand this shit. Supposedly job palettes start at D4/A3C0 but D4A3C0 isn't a fucking address in the ROM. I can't find anything online and it is really pissing me off. What the hell am I not understanding here. Obviously I either don't know how this works or it is just different from other games somehow. Either way it's pissing me the fuck off immensely right now.

General Discussion / Alternative to romhacking.net
« on: August 18, 2017, 08:47:01 AM »

I've started an alternative ROM hacking site specifically for Nintendo consoles (also using SMF). It just opened so there is literally no one there, but feel free to check it out if you're interested!

Final Fantasy IV -Postlude-

Introduction
This project is a continuation of The After Years, the sequel to the original Final Fantasy IV. It is a mostly story driven hack that explores the lives of the characters as depicted during the ending of TAY. The game play is very lax as more focus has been directed towards further developing the characters. It is designed to be accessible to all players and thus the difficulty is not exaggerated.

Story
The hack begins immediately where the end credits of The After Years left off. Ceodore, Kain, Cid, and Luca are bound for Damcyan to begin restoring the world following the near apocalypse. The hack follows Ceodore as the main protagonist, however many other characters play their own part in the story such as Ursula becoming more independent in her training and Leonora finally following her dream of becoming a Sage. Emphasis is especially placed upon characters introduced in TAY who have yet to receive the personal development they deserve.

Features
  • 13 playable characters from both Final Fantasy IV and The After Years
  • Updated battle, overworld, and menu character sprites
  • Newly added Weapons, Armor, and Magic introduced in The After Years
  • An enhanced translation that more closely resembles modern day terms
  • Areas restored to reflect their appearance as seen in The After Years
  • A post-game Challenge Dungeon designed for veteran players

For my hack I'd really prefer to leave this feature out. Does anyone know what values need to be changed for this?

6
Does anyone know the value that needs to be modified for me to do this? I imagine it can't be much more complicated than that (right)?

7
I've no idea why, but I guess I fucked something up real bad because the characters' portraits won't load in the menu. Attempting to select status, magic, etc. will soft lock the game because the cursor just disappears instead of appearing on a character. Anyone know what the issue could be...?

DK Cecil is dummied on purpose for my WIP hack. That isn't part of the issue just FYI.

EDIT: I manually copied over only the portions I had modified over from the broken ROM to a new ROM. When I loaded it into an emulator it was fine, however loading it in ff4kster and saving WITHOUT making any changes still corrupted it when I opened it in the emulator again. I guess ff4kster doesn't make some change I made I just have no idea what that change is.

EDIT #2: Now loading a perfectly fine ROM (that is headered) and has only had the Project II base patch applied to is also fucked. I have no idea wth is going on. I'll load up the perfectly fine ROM in ff4kster, make no changes, then save. But when I open it again in game now all the warps take me to the very top left corner of Baron. It doesn't matter if I walk into Baron Castle, Mist Cave, etc. they all take me to the corner of Baron. I tried re downloading ff4kster and the Project II patch which also didn't do shit. If anyone knows what in the fuck is happening then please let me know because I am losing my mind trying to figure it out.

EDIT #3: Still trying to resolve the issue. Only progress I've made is that when investigating the "Map" portion of ff4kster (while using the Project II patch, but before saving in the editor) I found that the text near the end of the menu is red and says "Over: 377" which does not occur before applying the patch. What confuses me to no end is that I have used multiple ROMs in the past that have been patched using the same Project II ips with no issues whatsoever. In fact, the ROM that I originally had the missing portrait bug with still has no warping issues even after being saved in ff4kster again. I swear I have run every single possibility through my mind yet still turned up nothing. I honestly want to give up after wasting so much time on this with no resolution in sight.

EDIT #4: Finally fixed the issues! I'll explain how in case anyone else ever reads this.
Problem #1: Not exactly sure why this one was caused, however I do know it has to do with spell data. My theory is that it was likely because I changed the amount of 6 letter spells.
Problem #2: Deleting unnecessary map data to make more room solved the problem. Just make sure you aren't over the limit when you save in the editor!

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / FFIV Overworld Editor?
« on: August 05, 2017, 03:02:30 PM »
The only current one I know of is a part of ff4edit, however the problem I have had with that is not being able to locate any version at all that is compatible with the editor. I have tried many different versions that claimed to be v1.0 yet weren't recognized. At first I thought the problem was the lack of a header, but even with one none were able to work!

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / FFIV Leonora
« on: August 01, 2017, 10:09:26 PM »
Hey yall~ So the last couple days I've been experimenting around with recreating Leonora's sprites in the original FFIV (for a future hack maybe?). All comments are appreciated! Also, I have yet to do the portrait as that thing is an absolute bitch especially being limited to 8 colors and all. If anyone would be willing to help with that it would be a blessing...

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Pasting into YY-CHR
« on: July 31, 2017, 09:48:49 PM »
I for the life of me cannot figure out what to do. Whenever I try to paste a .bmp the colors do not match up with the current YY-CHR palette. Using "Optimize color paste" and "Open snapshot" don't do anything helpful either. The .bmp contains nearly the exact same colors as seen in my YY-CHR palette. So why aren't the colors being pasted properly??

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / FFIV Advance Sprite Editing
« on: July 31, 2017, 12:24:57 AM »
I've been determined to figure out how replace the battle sprites. I'm using L277 Restructor 2 for exporting/importing bitmaps and APE for replacing palettes. Just out of experimentation I began replacing DK Cecil's sprite with Leonora's (form FFIVTAY) and after hours of tedious tinkering I finally booted up the ROM and to my surprise it looked great! Though I had only recreated the top part of Leonora's head it looked exactly how it should... until the game crashed. Yeah, for whatever reason everything is fine until the ATB fills up and the second it does the game resets.

Safe to say this is incredibly defeating after all those hours of work went into just figuring out how to locate the damn things. But anyway, if anyone could shed some light on what is going on here it would be greatly appreciated. Also, bonus points if anyone can tell me how to assemble each sprite as it should look in game using the bitmap provided by L277. It's 1 in the morning and I'm tired af so I will be heading to bed now. Peace.

EDIT: Must have had something to do with the palette as when I got that all straightened out it worked perfectly fine (praise the lord). Still though, if anyone has a faster, less time-consuming way of assembling each sprite PLEASE share your secret!

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Changing Battle Sprite Palettes
« on: February 23, 2017, 02:29:31 PM »
I'm finally back! So I've started implementing some FF V sprites into the ROM, but I need to know how to change the FF IV palettes to reflect what the colors should appear as in FF V. Does anyone know the process for going about this? Also, if I change the palette for let's say Palom, will that also affect the palette for Porom? Or are they separated?

I'm working on modifying the title screen to read "Heroes of Light and Dark", but I don't know how the tiles are arranged.

15
I am in desperate need of someone who is familiar with editing sprites. Specifically, I'm trying to replace certain FF IV sprites with FF V sprites as well as change the palettes of some sprites, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

Here is the project: http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=8a80bq4tu238a6dun490rrse44&topic=2268.0

If you aren't good at sprite editing, but would like to be a part of the team then let me know :)
It would be great to have more people to help out with this hack!
