re: Secret of Evermore Easytype
assassin:
Secret of Evermore EasyType version 1.0 BETA is out as of 1/17/2012!
(posting here in response to a post seen on ff6hacking.com)
--- Quote from: JCE3000GT ----Issue #3: When you gain your 2nd level to level 3 your "for level up" experience number will be in a long data format. In other words it will show a number over 4,000,000 which covers up the text. This is because the game doesn't allow you to gain more than 1 level at a time and the assembly routine cannot parse the correct number.

my Erratic Levelling Fix actually addresses this:

by allowing you to gain more than 1 level at a time. (it doesn't change the "for level up" display code, but shouldn't need to.)
feel free to turn this into a general purpose thread for your patch (good work, btw), since my one post doesn't really deserve its own thread.
Deathlike2:
I know this sounds a little offtopic, but what the hell is that special "Magic Gourd" item supposed to do in SOE?
assassin:
nothing, as far as anybody knows. Brian Fehdrau, the lead programmer who has posted on the GameFAQs SoE board in the past, recalls that it was probably intended as a gag item: but he can't remember whether the gag was to have a "magical" item do nothing, or for it to appear to do nothing, and then have some obscure purpose. :/ so we're assuming the former until proven otherwise.
i couldn't find any references to this Charm when searching through the ROM's disassembly, so it likely has no effect in battle. however, NPCs have a more complex system when responding to possessed charms that's implemented via scripting, and i wouldn't notice this with a simple search, so it's possible Magic Gourd has some dialogue effects.

Excellent! Thank you. I will definitely use it. :)
assassin, your inbox is full!
*edit 2*
English patch (E) is broke...
*edit 3*
I've updated all the other versions with your patch, and uploaded them to the website as well as added preliminary support for the 2-player hack.
assassin:
broken how? and do French, German, and Spanish work alright?
EDIT: my patches are all meant for headered ROMs. that's 3,146,240 bytes for SoE. i don't know what yours are intended for, as you don't specify. whoa, i also failed to specify. guess i started doing that in 2006. :/
i've been meaning to put a catch-all note at the top of my patch webpages, but evidently this was too Herculean a task for me to complete since i first thought of it in 2008 or so. rush me, and i might sprain something!
