Yes, it's another Goldeneye update
« on: April 20, 2008, 05:59:32 AM »
I was going to hold off on this one for a bit longer, I've got another secret project in the works but I haven't had a chance to properly test it yet, so I might as well update now before these become really outdated.

First up, a patch to enable Rare's unused multiplayer setups for Statue and Cradle:

These setups were previously available via GameShark/Action Replay but since Mupen64K doesn't support cheats there's no way to play them online without this patch. I tried to make it as "official" as possible, the maps replace Stack and Basement (Which, for those of you who don't know, are just two extra Library setups that divide the map in half), you need to complete the solo missions before they're available, they fall in the correct order on the selection screen, and are limited to two and three players respectively. They both suck, by the way, which is why they were cut, Statue is nearly unplayable.

Download

And another nearly unplayable one, this time my own creation, a multiplayer setup for Control:

Limited to two players because it lagged terribly with three and crashed with four, this sections off the main control room from the caverns and warehouse areas. It's a fairly small map so it's fun with two players, but it gets very slow in the control room despite many attempts to make it run as smooth as possible. If you don't mind a little slowdown give it a try.

Download

Many thanks to Wreck for testing both of these online with me and Scorpion for helping test Control with three players.

Statue is unplayable as it is in single player. :lame: Cradle looks like it would be interesting multiplayer, given the layout.

119 bugs fixed and counting.

Statue's actually one of my favorite single player levels, I've never really been sure why, I hated it the first few times I played it but once I learned the layout I really liked it. One of the few missions I can do without getting hit once (Not consistently like Dam though, one of Trevelyan's goons tends to get me as I run away). Statue would be fun in multiplayer if it ran at a decent speed and didn't suffer from blackouts, there's loads of cover and fun sniping spots, it just has way too much geometry visible at once. bmw was working on a modified statue map with a good portion of the stage removed, he was having collision issues so I guess it was put on hold.

Cradle would be good but it's just too big and open, it slows down pretty bad whenever you have too much of the structure in view and it has collision issues (Rockets can pass right through the walkways). The biggest problem with it are the support pylons, three of the start points are on them and it takes forever to get back up to the main structure, by the time you get up there your opponent is already too well armed to really stand a chance against them. I only played it with two players, I'd imagine the slowdown would be a lot worse with three but at the same time it would probably be more fun since the map is so large.

Are these levels fun to play multiplayer?
Why were they not included originally? :P

Rare said they tested every solo map in multiplayer and kept the ones that played best, these didn't play the best. The final version's text files show that Frigate and Aztec almost made it in along with Statue and Cradle (They don't have setups though) and quite a few solo mission select photos are available in the multiplayer select menu, not all of them though, Control wasn't.

These maps don't play nearly as good as the maps that made the cut, they're still fun though.

Project64 and 1964 both run the game decently, you can play online using Mupen64k but the game doesn't run as good in it.
