Thanks for all the info...the problem with me is that i am trapped underground so i dont have access to most of the good equipment you mentioned.

I do have the Fire Sword, but it only deals between 100-400(if you're lucky) damage (sometimes even misses So, he is virtually impossible. I might take 1,000 tries to get lucky enough to beat him. He connects with all of his spells, and he's brtual. lol

2
If Golbez has that much HP, then he's absoutlely impossible with the version I am playing. I cannot even get 1,000 hp off of him, and this is with fighting with all my skill.  He attacks twice per round, so no matter how often you use life, cure 2, etc, you will still due before you can get enough attacks in. He kills most members in the party in 1 hit, besides Cecil who can usually take 3 spells before he dies.

So, you should rename the 1.0 patch to FF2 HACK GOLBEZ DARK ENDING (just since he's unbeatable and the game ends there!)

I realized the problem with beating the dolls with Cecil in the back of the party, makes Golbez harder (as you need him in the front when facing Golbez to stand a chance, since all he does is cast spells....I had a theory that if you just waited it out and cured long enough he would run out of MP and then he would be possible. I wasnt able to get him to run out....but this might be the only way to beat him) so I will try again with Cecil in the front(and I'll attempt to get Golbez to run out of MP again)....problem is I was doing greart against the dolls with Cecil out front, and then Calbrenna Turned BACK into the dolls after I saw a message that said "hp ran out" and it was just an infinte battle from there, so I gave up.

This was kinda cool...but I am sure it's not possible. I guess 3.0 would be, but I wanted to playt he hardest version you had. I think if you ever tweak it to make it possible (but just barely) it would be great. If not, then it's still cool for the idea I had to keep it like this.

lol

Bottom line is (incase my post made no sense) Golbez is unbeatable unless you can get him to run out of MP, because all you can do is heal every turn and he STILL ends up killing you. This leaves absoutely NO time or chance to get many attacks in. I'd say he's still possible, but when I say that, I mean a 1 out of million chance....so nobody will ever beat him the way it is now, uneless he is able to run out of MP before he kills me.

LOL at least we got this cleared up. I am playing the patch with no changes. The legend sword is weaker than the fire sword, I already tested that.

Also I decided to check a FAQ for Golbex HP...and it said he had like 22,000 but you only have to hit him with one summon and he will die. They recommend the Titan summon which I dont believe I have. I have just chocobo and I hit him with it and he did not die. Either way I guess his HP is fairly low? This would be the only way to beat him, if it is infact EXTREMELY low, which I guess it is.

So, all in all this is a great idea for a hack, if this ends up being possible to beat. I mean what if Golbez actually had a lot of HP like he should? Then he would be unbeatable at this level.

JCE3000GT- When you created this hack, were you aware that it would likely be possible, due to all these flaws in the game (Well I call them flaws...but what I mean is that the normal game is way too easy)

PS- Are the sliver apples only available in FF IV? I dont see anything that says they exisrt in FF2.

4
By the way, in the text document that came with the patch, it said the ONLY changes to the game was that you receive 0 exp from all monsters, including bosses.
I am playing ver 1.0

So, I am guessing you have something diffeent, if things are altered from the normal game, like cure 3 potions being sold in all shops, or not being able to use life potions in battle, etc. In FF2 you can use life potions in battle, so nothing should be changed from the normal game other than the 0 experience, if you are playing the same thing I am. I dont know if JCE3000GT made 2 versions of the 1.0?? Can you clear this up for us?

Thanks

Well I am playing 1.0 impossible and I am playing the US american rom version. I haven't found anywhere that sells Cure 3 potions yet that I remember. I do not have a single cure 3 potion in my entire inventory.  And how did you beat Valvalis without using any life potions? Are you sure you're talking about the same game?

I did figure out a great way to beat the dolls today. What you do is put Cecil and Kain  in the back of your party, so that the dolls cannort do much damage to him at all....and then the other party members also survive, because Cecil protects/shields them. So I was able to almost sweep the dolls, but Calbrena appeared with just 1 doll left, so I had to beat her, but she was really easy with Cecil in the back. She could no longer kill him in one hit.

So, I made it to Golbez, this time with full HP. and I still couldn't manage to beat him. He casts too many spells, much too quickly for me to really get any attacks in. Most of the spells kills each party member in 1 hit. And he attacks twice per round, so I don't see how he's really possible to beat. I don't know how much HP he has, but I was only able to get less than 500 from him. He's very tough. I hate the slowness of going through the dolls each time, as that battle is now a joke, so I just made a save state right before Golbez (although I never cheat and save during the middle of the battles...I just dont have the patieice to deal the dolls 10x in a row. I would of when I was younger. lol) Anyways I cant seem to beat Golbez. The fire spell takes a lot of HP from me, and I even have the fire armor, so I am not sure why you would only take 1 hp?

Quote ""As for the big spoiler, just play around with your equipment and check your status screen, and you might find it.  It's definitely not a cheat.""

Again it sounds as if you are speaking of a different game...because FF2 doesnt really give you much choice with weapons and armor...and most of them do not have any special effect. I just have the basics....fire arrows, ice arrows, life staff for rosa, Legend and Fire Swords for Cecil, Poison and Charm claws for Yang, etc

About the claws....Yes I have found the Thunder Claw, the Charm Claw and the Poison Claws for yang.

Well I just went and tried to beat the dolls again. My dumbass didnt even realize that Rosa had the SLOW spell, so I was not using that at all. Maybe that would of made Valvalis easier. Either way the dolls are definitly easier when you cast SLOW on them. I guess the goal is to be able to beat them before they turn into Calbrena, because Calbrena kills every member in the party in 1 hit, with the exception of Cecil sometimes.

So, this is why it's tough to survive her and keep your party healthy, but now with the SLOW spell they are much easier. So, I look forward to facing Lague, and If I am able to beat him I will share the secret here. I have plenty of life potions but if he kills every member in 1 hit, I dont see why those would matter anyways. Maybe Cast slow then jump with Kain? Who knows. I havent made it that far yet. Also a secret could be to put certain members in the front or back of your party..

Well I don't know where to starr, but I'll try to adress all points-

First, don't worry about sounding cocky. I am cocky too. If you are the best, then you deserve bragging rights. I have some major accomplishments in RPG's. My goal is to beat every SNES and NES RPG ever created, including the japanese games. I defeated Omega playing FFV in all Jap so that was probably the biggest challenge I've ever faced for a single boss alone. I asked around for other super tough bosses, and I was told to try the Egg Dragon from Lufia 2......WHAT A JOKE!! I beat him on Lv 49 on my 2nd shot. He was no harder than a regular tough boss. That is the way all regular bosses should be (or even harder) He definitly did not cut it as a super boss, but lufia 2 was such a pathetically easy game anyways, I wasnt suprised.
FF2 is even easier, but if you try to beat the game without equipping any weapons, you'll see a tough challenge.  OK. so now that I am done bragging, let me continue on here.

You say there is a source of berserk. Maybe there is, but not with my party. There might be some kind of secret or weapon or armor I am missing. I don't know. I just played through the game normally (I have NEVER cheated on this game nor have I ever read an FAQ...maybe I should because I have only discovered a few hidden areas in the game personally on my own. I don't think there are too many more, so I think I have just about mastered the game, but I dont have a source of beserk. Can I ask where you got it? I don't need it, but just curious. I never once used berserk to beat the game, but now we are playing an "impossible" version so it may be nessecary at some point. Since nobody can learn spells, it makes the game much tougher. So, far it's been a walk in the park (except for Valvalis, but like I said she was not hard with the cure 2 potions) so it's kinda sad that this game is that easy that you can beat it at level 1.

Now I am in a battle that is literlly impossible. There is no way to win because I cannot attack fast enough and I do not have any source of FAST. I am stuck in the underworld with limited options.  The only way to win with what I have would be to survive the battle with the dolls, and they are the first tough battle of the game, so it is hard to survive it with enough hit points to withstand Golbez's attack.

About using a life spell in battle.....why would you need it? You should have plenrty of LIFE potions in your inventory. And then you mentioned you have plenrty of Cure 3 potions.  Can I ask where you got them all? They are not widely available, and it seems that you must of cheated if you have that many of them. Either way, since the party has low HP, why would you need them? Cure 2 potions have worked fine for me so far....

Quote ""Where exactly are you buying Cure2s, anyway?  It's been a while since I've played through this...""

I don't remember which town I got them in. I think mysidia. But I am sure there are plenty of towns in the game which sell them. Now cure 3 potions, I don't remember them being widely available. Please let me know how you got so many of them.

Quote ""If the Calbrena are even capable of damaging you, you aren't doing it right.  I know this is beginning to sound cocky, but it's clear there's a big trick you're missing, and I don't want to outright spoil it.""

Is it a cheat technique? If so, I am not interested. I like beating my games with no cheating at all. No FAQ's, etc. If you discover a secret on your own, then that's fine, but I like beating my games (especially hard type hacks) fair in square, or they would be pointless for me to play. Also remember that I use active battle which makes the enenmies attack you faster. The dolls are tough, because they attack so often and it's hard to beat them and still have a lot of energy left, but I am sure I can do it. I have only attempted to fight them twice now. I won the first battle and lost the second. So, they are no walk in the park for me. Maybe I am missing something, but when I get to Golbez, he attacks before I can get in any move, so he kills me instantly in one hit.

Quote ""Killed Golbez without healing, too.   Here's a screenshot hint for you to know what you're looking for.""

What am I looking for? To have Cecil over 300 HP? If so, that what I figured myself...I just need to be able to beat the dolls and still have over 300 hp, and that is the hard part. I am not immune to them like you are......Also if you like challenges, why not just beat the dolls with NO immunity? They will give you a decent challenge as they already killed me once and I don't usually die on any bosses in a regular RPG.

PS- I also beat Valvalis without healing. You dont need heal potions to win, you need CURE 2 potions to beat her. If you don't, then I'd like to know your method. Where do you get your source of beserk at that point in the game?? I checked all my items and I do not have any source of it what so ever. I even cleaned out the castle of Eblan, to get the treasures there (But I couldnt beat the Mad Ogres, I don't think...but all they give you is the Slumber sword I believe) Sorry if anything here is inaccurate. I have a horrible memory, so even playing through the game 50 or more times, I still dont remember every little thing from it. Just about though. lol

Like I said before, the only reason Valvalis was a problem was because I didn't have enough Cure 2 potions. So, I went back and bought some. I rode the black chocobo since it wouldnt let me ride the airship (it would automatically goto the tower of zot)
And they did not sell cure 2 potions in Toria, so that is why I needed thw black chocobo. Anyways once I got those potions I was able to beat Valvalis on the first try. So, basically you NEED the cure 2 potions to stand a fighting chance. I noticed your gold was much lower than mine on the status screen, indicating that you either had the cure 2 potions yourself or that you ran away from more battles than me. Since I know she's nearly impossible without the cure 2 potions, I came to the conclusion that you must have been using them. Sorry if you missed all this in my previous post. I thought I explained it.

Well, I look forward to playing a "possible" version of the hack, if it's ever created. If this one is truly impossible, I still like it and I will tell you why-
Imagine Golbez IS impossible, and considering he is in my situation (He attacks before I can do anything) I think it's kinda cool and a new twist on the story, to have cecil get killed by golbez. You could consider this like the dark ending of FF2, that we have never seen before. Sure, it would make the game much shorter, but the ending would be much more cool. We could see Zemus destroy the entire world, and Cecil would never find out that Golbez was his brother.

I apologize the above post was meant to be posted in another topic. My mistake.

I'm sorry I think I posted this in the wrong topic. Let me repost it here-

Quote ""I am kind of confused where the problem is though - Valvalis can't actually damage you outside of Weak if you're doing things right.

Yes, I was able to beat her once I went and restocked on Cure 2 potions. Those are a must. Without those, Valvalis is impossible. There were no sources of besersk, like Jce3000gt said. So, you do need some cure 2 potions to beat her. Can I ask how far you have gotten? I am playing ver 1.0 (the one where even bosses give no exp) Even if you're playing 3.0 I'm still interested to know how far you've made it. Thanks

Right now I have made it to the battle with Golbez (Where Rydia returns) and after defeating the dolls and Calbrena, the party is pretty weak. Then Shadow destroys nearly the entire party, so once the battle with Golbez started, he killed me immediatly with the Virus spell, then killed Rydia with the Lit 3 spell. There was not even time for me to get one round in, so basically I come to the conclusion that it is impossible to defeart him unless you can have Cecil survive his first attack. That means getting through the battle with Calbrena with full hit points. That is going to be a big challenge in itself. Once I can do that, then I think Goldez willl be possible to beat.

Also I would post my screenshot from right before I fought Valvalis, but It's nearly identical to the one posted here. The only difference was the time played.

If you would like any screenshots from the current progress, let me know.

Well I beat all of your hardtype hacks. (I even had the 1.0 version that it appears you are not offering any longer) Those were really fun due to the new text changes, etc. I consider them professional hacks. They were pretty challenging, but not enough to really test my limits.

That is why I had great interest in the ff2 impossible hacks. From the replies I've read here though, it appears that NO ONE has tested or beaten your impossible hacks yet? Not even the creator? (As he said, he thinks they are possible to beat)

I figured they definitly were possible, but right now I am at Valvalis. I had little life potions left so I had to leave the Tower of Zot and go get some more. Now, I am back to face Valvalis. This seems like the hardest boss yet (and I also keep my battle mode on active (or fastest) so the enenmies attack constantly, as this ups the challenge even more.  Valvalis may not be possible to beat like this, as she attacks like 4 times per round, before you can get even 1 move in (on active battle)

Never heard of silver apples. I do not intend to cheat at all to beat this hack. I am just playing through normally. I did use the Weak spell on the Dark Elf to defeat him, but that wasn't cheatinmg, as I figured that out on my own long ago when playing the regular version.

So, in other words, has ANYONE ever beaten the impossible hack WITHOUT any cheating of any kind (including hacking, looking for special info on items, etc) Because this is my goal.

Thanks and I'll let you know my progress and if I get to any bosses thatI can't beat.

PS- I am not a hacker at all, so there is no way I could hack into the game at all (and wouldnyt want to anyways)

So, where can I download your hack at? And how much is finished currently?

Thanks, I look forward to dominating your hack

Hello,

I have played and beaten all of your hardtype hacks. I thought they were fun. I wanted to thank you for releasing hacks like this, as I am the worlds biggest fan of FF2. I am now getting into your FF2 Impossible hacks. I have had no problem progression through the game so far, but before I invest too much time in it, I was wondering if these impossible hacks are actually possible to beat?(one of them also had a bug to where you couldnt make it past the first auto battle in the opening scene, but i re-did the patch and fixed that) I am asking because I am only interested in it for the challenge, if there is no dialoge text change. I have beaten FF2 US over 50 times so I already have the story memorized. So, please let me know. It seems completely possible to me that you could beat the game without gaining any EXP, as you only need 1 HP to be alive in battle. I just want to make sure, since the title of the hack says "impossible" You rated the hack an 8 out of 10 (the ver I am playing) in diffulculty, so this leads me to believe it is definitly possible. I recommend you make a 10 out of 10 diffulculty (but still possible to beat) hack in the future for hardcore gamers like me who need a real RPG challenge. I like playing bosses that kill me 5x before I beat them. I don't even think I died 5x total in any of your hardtype hacks. One of my greatest challenges was defeating Omega in FFV, in all Japanese. I had the game imported with a convertor for my SNES way back before it ever came out on the PS1 in america. So, I had to play in all Japanese, and it took me over 100 hours just to figure out how to beat Omega. It took me 500 hours to master the entire game. Now, that is a real challenge. The first step in making a real challenging hack is taking my advice below-

(First a little about me.....)I am a hardcore RPG fan and my first RPG ever was FF2 us...so I started out on a good note. There has been no game to this date that has even come close to this one.  My 2nd RPG was the 7th Saga, and that was a kiddie game compared to FF2 US with no weapons or armor. You're probably wondering....so I'll explain. Since it was my first RPG and I was just a kid at the time...I had no idea about "equipping" weapons or armor. So, in other words, I managed to beat the entire game without equipping any weapons or armor. I always wondered why the game was so much easier the 2nd time I beat it. Anyways my suggesstion to the owner of this forum is to make another hack of FF2, to not allow the player to equip any weapons or armor on ANY character. Also I would recommend making the enemies a lot harder, and raise MP values for spells. Also take out ALL either items from the game, as I did not use those either. Limit the amount of Cure potions you can carry to less than 25. This will provide the challenge of a lifetime, and if one could discipline himself to do these things on your own (don't use any either items, don't buy more than 25 cure potions at a time and don't equip anything) you could at least turn FF US into a  very challenging game.

Well let me know about that US impossible ver. I just want to claify that you beat it already.

PS- I just downloaded the US Insane hack. How do you rate the diffulculty on that one?
