snes pal is great for use on ff4, i know exactly where the overworld palettes start as well as battle character sprites palettes and portrait palettes. pretty sure these are specifically used for their one purpose. course ff4 reference book lists where these are too....

my favorite thing to do is play with the sprites but i doubt that helps much here

yeah im able to fix that easily, i just figured id mention that that is how it works.

theres another thing. the program will not allow you to add actors golbez or anna to a party, if you use this program on a rom with an event that adds any actor past Kain3, it wont add this character. I used Golbez actor to join where fusoya normally does but now it wont add him.

4
i was doing a play as i go fix of all my npc bugs and i got to troia castle, and realized i cannot access the npcs in the troia hospital or in several other places for that matter. but because in my hack you dont have the default games party i cant fix this. and one of the characters, my cid takes palette assignment instead of default player character palette because he is in the golbez slot, so he has the wrong palette here too lol...

i just wanted to take time to say that this program is great! it even properly works with my hack in which i reassigned the level up data so that every character has level 1 data.

i also am interested in being able to change the targetting of skills.

and as for golbez actor? the actor is fine but cannot be given a learnable magic set and cannot be saved to the shadow party (which i really wish could be fixed)
some extra info: the pig sprite can be used to create a full golbez sprite (his palette assignment begins there) instead of overwriting another characters sprite and IF you are ok with dummying mini, and pig it frees up a full overworld sprite slot as well as a portait. there is technically enough sprite space to have a full anna sprite as well however it requires removing the small twin moon gfx from the intro screen when cecil and cain first leave for mist.

ohh btw, I created a special black magic set for my Anna (fusoya's actor) where she actually learns spells that i cant access on the magic learning menu. any way to allow this to select spells further down the list? Fire/Ice/Bolt 4 are a bit overkill but hey its the daughter of the great sage afterall lol..

lol in my hack, she learns fire1 first like any normal black mage and also she learns the 4 monster summons on levels instead too including bombs which she probably should hate since they burned her village

Thanks for the reply. that answers my questions. I just thought maybe i had missed something pertaining to those skills.
I guess i confused Gird and Store as well, i had meant any of the skills that do not display a spell animation. but the locations of these skills all are not known.

I find it so odd that the dark wave animation data doesn't appear to be anywhere with the other ones. ah well, at least the skill doesn't necessarily need anything done to it for it to always be useful.

on the subject of things Grid/peep/cry/boast etc

can i assign a spell gfx to these?

i do not see the data listed for these only their behaviors. it would be nice to be able to chanage cry/and peep particularly
and i also dont see the info for dark wave anyway, suppose i wanted to change the damage it does or how much it drains from the user. is there more information im missing somewhere?

sorry to necro this, but i dont suppose anyone did anything to make this something the player can use on an enemy? would be interesting to give my dark night this spell, but the glitches associated with it seem pretty severe.

I suppose If I used one of those consumable spell casting items to make this a 1 target castable spell and limited the amount youre able to find in the game to 2 then this would work ok? thats pretty lame tho when you could just cast death or weak tho

not that people expect it, but i recall leaving part of a ff3 anna sprite somewhere on here. it was based closely on Rachel

ok so how has it been doing dialog edits for you? I only attempted to change her lines here as my first dialog change and learned that this game uses a lot of double letter combinations to save event space... pain in the butt...

but i changed this npc's lines to:

"Harley: We helped a wounded young lady get to the pot of life just in time..."

Indirectly hinting that it was Anna after Cecil and Edward leave Damcyan after the event, however to make it so that Edward doesn't assume shes still alive, I make Harley very vague about it as if to say she is not familiar with Anna.

Btw i should show you my version of Golbez, he looks a little more detailed with the gold and the blue as you see on harleys palette is the same.

Have you figured out how to eliminate the npc palette issue? I know what to do but I don't know the locations for changing them. I know they are listed but i havent looked into it. it should be as easy as assigning the common "town" npc palette set to all the dungeon areas that dont have anything there.

now then, you had mentioned how npc palettes appear to loop over a few palettes when you tested out different values. Here's what appears to be the case:

each map is assigned a set of npc palettes consisting of 3 palettes. but from what i see, they almost always include the red/gold/white and the blue/gold/brown npc palettes, and then the third is whichever else is needed (for towns it is usually the purple/gold/bown palette but things like chocobo forest use the white one (for the white chocobo) and then places
----

Ugh, finding  that some of the specific npc's is a pain in the butt. I can't seem to find the Cid npc used at toria around Edwards bed. the only thing i need to do is make his npc use the blue npc palette but i could have sworn i changed all of Cid's to the blue one.

(the reason why need this is because i swapped Cid's sprite with Golbez (who replaces the mini sprite overworld. the pig, frog and mini do not hold player palettes when used as npc's)

interesting. thanks for the info..

dark elf?  off subject but.

his tri elemental attack is weird, is he actually casting the real fire/ice/bolt2 spells because it only shows damage once...
