General Discussion / Re: Boot issues - any ideas?
« on: September 27, 2009, 03:42:58 PM »
In case you thought I had forgotten about this, I didn't; it just took my friend this long to have some time off from work to come over. Anyway, we installed the new board today, and everything seems to be working great. I'm debating whether I want to do another reformat, wipe Vista and Ubuntu, since I doubt I'll be needing them again anytime soon.

If you have any suggestions for other useful topics to go in the welcome thread, just let me know. I added the NDS and TAY research threads (I really need to get around to redoing the NDS thread one of these days).

Phoenix already has the pointers noted:

Code: [Select]
A001D-A002C Auto-Battle Pointers (2 bytes, reverse and add 0x90200
The Raven battle pointer is at 0xA001F (headered).

Happy birthday, bond. :cycle:

 :omg: :wtf: :blits:

Don't worry, retarded Sabin! The index of this board was getting really cluttered up, so I destickied them and placed links to them in the Welcome to FF4 R&D thread instead. The important stuff is just as easy to locate, but you no longer need to scroll down ~85% of the page to get to the non-sticky threads.

I don't have a GBA emulator or any ROMs on this computer, so I can't really offer any just yet.

Oh wow, did they actually pull it down from the main page? It's back to being the voiceover list that was up a few days ago.

(Speaking of that list, #2 confuses me. Samus never spoke in any of the Prime games, unless you count the various screams of pain. Her suit "spoke" in Prime 2 and 3 (and non-US versions of 1), is that what it's referring to?)

Wow, that link is ancient. I believe the page has moved three times since then (maybe only two).

Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)

And I had forgotten how much fun this game is with this translation. Anyway, I started a new game last night, and just finished up the ship graveyard before going to bed. Current party is Knight, White Mage, Black Mage, Blue Mage. I usually have Faris as a Thief at this point, but there's not all that much worth stealing until the Walse Tower. You don't start getting Thief-exclusive gear until Karnak, so I figure I'll work on Blue Mage, then switch her over at the tower. I briefly had her as a Black Mage as well, for the Torna Canal, so she has !Black level 1, and everyone else has one level towards Blue Mage. It's easier to just turn your whole party into them rather than trying to get an enemy to hit one character (although that is better in a way; you have more chances of getting extra Leather Shoes and some Elixirs early).

 :edit:

On my way to Karnak. These jobs aren't working well for me; I actually had to use Phoenix Down a few times. I don't remember ever having trouble with the beginning of the game, but I usually have two decent attackers at this point.

Oh, I didn't realize you had to hit enter when between the hex and text. I was trying at the start of a line (I was going to the line I wanted the new command on and hitting enter, expecting it to push the existing command down to the next line and making a blank line where I wanted the next command). The way it works now is fine, I just didn't realize it had to be done that way.

I haven't used the event editor extensively until today, and I'm having a bit of a problem with it. It works fine for me as long as I'm adding to the end of an event. If I go to, say, the third line down and try to insert a new line by hitting enter there (or just typing), it does not work as I'd expect it to. A blank space is made briefly, and the cursor drops down to the next line, but no area is created that I can type into without messing up one of the existing commands. Basically, there doesn't seem to be any way to add a new command in the middle of an event, except for cutting everything that comes after where you want it, typing it in, and then pasting all of that back it.

what did you use to make the patch?  that seems way too big for just a few lines of text.

That's the nature of this game's script (all of the text is in one big block - shorten or extend one line, and it all shifts). Veta, I didn't even think about that when I suggested Lunar IPS to you. You should probably use KaioShin's xdelta UI instead. It's about as simple to use as Lunar IPS, and the patch will be much smaller. (xdelta can handle moving data without duplicating it in the patch.) You can get that at Romhacking.net too.
