Rockman 5 Endless
« on: October 11, 2008, 04:46:25 PM »
Note to First-Time Readers: An archive of previous versions of this hack is available here. You will need to pay attention to which version the movies in this thread were recorded with as the hack is updated frequently.

Rockman 5 Endless (NES)

51 screens, I guess that's not bad for a first run, and I died from running out of energy rather than something stupid. I must thank kuja killer for bringing this awesome hack to my attention.

:edit:

70, after a few very bad attempts.

 :edit:

I hate this screen.

Rockman 5 Endless (NES) - Run 2

I forget how many attempts I made in this one but I stopped after dying at 70. Considering people have gotten over 1,000 in MM9's endless stage I have a lot of improving to do...I want to see you guys make a few attempts at this too. Recorded with Nestopia 1.40.

Rockman 5 Endless (NES) - Run 4

This is the one I got 103 on.

These videos were recorded with the October 12th version.

* Lenophis takes a shot at it.

Tonight's the first night I've really played MM5, so forgive the rookie mistakes (please?). :shadow:

There's a new version out, I labeled it 1.01 on RHDN because the page doesn't have an official version number anywhere. The update adds some screens from Stone Man's stage that I've seen so far, here's my first attempt:

Rockman 5 Endless (1.01) - Run 1

Just one run, I die against Napalm Man. It starts a few screens in because I wasn't going to bother recording a movie at first. Note the new screen counter in the menu.

Rockman 5 Endless (1.01) (NES)

280 more screens than my last best:

That death was really lame though.

Rockman 5 Endless (1.01) - Run 2

Two runs, the first ends at 50, the second at 383. There are brand new screens in addition to the ones taken from Stone Man's stage.

With the new version out, I made two more runs. Honestly, my lack of knowledge of the game does show. The only reason I know a weakness or so is because of memory of watching the movies DKK's posting. :isuck:

Ahhh well.

If anyone else is confused by that new (vertical) spike pit in Gravity Man's stage, it's not actually a bottomless pit:

Demonstration Video

Of course you can just use Rush to cross as I did in my run above and have no risk of dying here. Leno covers the new horizontal spike corridor in his video above.

I split this off into its own topic since I had a feeling it would completely take over the movie thread soon. There's another update, this guy must update his hack daily, which is impressive considering how much each update has added. As the RHDN description says this version has a new results screen, adds a few screens from Wily's fortress, and adds even more customs. The new custom stages have what looks to be a preliminary tileset, just black and white, but the screens themselves are still fun to play.

I plan on throwing an archive page on Dbi so anyone who wants to can watch the old movies. Did anyone happen to hold onto the original archive 1.0 came in? This new version has a readme, 1.01 didn't, I want to be sure 1.0 didn't either.

I've come across two of them, but one of them is not original (but I'm happy where it was taken from).

No, I deleted mine long ago. :wedge: I do still have the old versions patched, though (like that helps).

Oh well, I'm pretty sure it didn't include one as I would've added it to the entry at RHDN if it did.

I'm considering changing the version number to the date of release, I think this would be better than assigning them an arbitrary number based on when I started downloading them (not the mention I could easily miss an update if I forget to check one day). Thoughts?

I got the Spark Man screen too but I wasn't 100% sure if it was copied from there or not, as I wasn't comparing the two side-by-side.

this sounds like quite a good idea.   :cycle: :cycle:

i'm having a lot of fun with this thing so far, but i've (honestly!) never played megaman 5 before. i played 1-4 when i was younger, and have replayed them since, but for some reason i never moved on to 5 and 6.  which is better? or maybe i'll just play them in order 1 day.

MM5 is one of my favorites, but I really have a hard time giving them a specific order, I love them all! I plan on recording a playthrough of it tonight.

 :edit:

Preliminary archive is available here. The layout is kind of ugly, I never did get around to making a good layout for the hack pages. One thing to note is that since I used the dates attached to the patches all of these hacks are one date higher than when I posted them, stupid timezones. I guessed on the October 12th patch, since I didn't have access to it anymore, it should be right.

I edited all the posts with movies in this thread to make note of which date version they were recorded with.
