Woes of Internet Explorer
« on: December 13, 2008, 03:01:11 PM »
Oh, goodie. A new exploit is out and about. The gist of it, as I read at SDA (specific thread).

Quote from: rooster
There is a heavy exploit going around, being injected in big websites with many hits by hackers, that is targeting IE users and is very dangerous.

This exploit can potentially take control of the computer without requiring the user to actually click somewhere (which is the usual way to clickjack a pc). Meaning that the user only has to visit a website to get infected. Few current Virus, Backdoor and Malware scanners can spot it yet, so be warned, use a different browser until the IE has been patched (or a different browser alltogether Cheesy).

Check:
Firefox
Opera
Safari
or if you like neither of these: Google Chrome

For people interested in how the exploit works:
Basically the error is the xml parser of IE. People place an (invisible) iframe on a website, that calls an illegal xml path, which crashes the xml parser and allows entrance into the stack, to run machinecode.

I hope I can save someone from SDA through this post.

119 bugs fixed and counting.
