FFIV: The After Years Save State Hacking Guide

After finishing all episodes I got the itch to tinker with it..

Attached is my findings in .RTF format.  The document is not complete,  but a good start with lots of information worth sharing now.

This game was definately based on the GBA version. Email me with any questions.  This document does not contain any plot spoilers.

Some cool stuff here. As I already said at TransCorp, my Wii isn't homebrew enabled, and I don't plan on doing anything to it at least until my warranty is up, so I can't really make use of the document. It is cool to see that it was based on the GBA version, and goes to show that the GBA version could've been excellent if more work had been put into it (or maybe Matrix's coders rewrote huge chunks of code, who knows). I wouldn't say this is spoiler free, though, it kind of spoils the equipment you'll be getting (no, I'm not really serious).

Some notes:

There should be an entry before the Flame Claws, which determines the attack power and accuracy of unarmed attacks.

Code: [Select]
0x44 Crescent Axe Attack: 30Interesting, this was the Hand Axe in every other version. I guess they decided to finally make it available.

Code: [Select]
0x52 *BLANK* This is a two-handed copy of the Ragnarok in every other version.

Code: [Select]
0x6C *BLANK*The default stats for any unequipped armor slots. Gives you 10 evasion in the original.

Code: [Select]
0xF7 *BLANK*
0xF9 *BLANK*
Gysahl greens and Gysahl whistle in the originals. Useless because the fat chocobo is MIA.

Code: [Select]
0x10E Index Finger Removed from this title [Dummy?]This was the Flandango in FF4 Advance. I'd give it a try and see if it still is.

Code: [Select]
0x119 $B!| (BExperience Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11A $B!| (BGil Received Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11B $B!| (BWait Time Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11C $B!| (BMP Consumed Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11D $B!| (BItem Lore Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11E $B!| (BReach Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x11F $B!| (BDraw Attacks Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x120 $B!| (BDrop Rate Removed from this title [Dummy?]
0x121 $B!| (BRare Drops Removed from this title [Dummy?]
Very interesting, these were the lunar summon grimoires in FF4 Advance. Strings are obviously taken from FF4DS. I'd test them and see if they still work (I doubt it, but who knows).

Code: [Select]
0x141 Dragon Mail Removed from this title [Dummy?]
Same item exists, but this is GBA data
This is the dragoon plate in the GBA version. Strange that they reused the dragon mail name (I haven't played the Japanese GBA version, nor have I bothered making a table for it, but I'm guessing this was "dragon mail" written in Japanese, while the original is in English).

Code: [Select]
0x147 Dirty Water Black and dirty water
0x14C Old Man Doll A not so cute doll

Both of these were dummied in the GBA version, are they actually used in this game? You don't have them marked as dummied.

Code: [Select]
0x150 Blood Harp A harp that can soothe the soulThe requiem harp in the GBA version, probably just a new name for it. Everything after this is new.

Also, do any of the GBA version's "relics" that changed character commands still work? I'm wondering how much GBA code is still present, or if they just gutted it all but left the items.

 :bump:
Neither the doll or the muddy water were used in the GBA port. My guess is that there was meant to be some variation of that mini-puzzle with the doors (which tbh was very boring).
